The more I read about Svechnikov, I want the Flames to make him their priority with their first round pick.

Comes off as the prototypical Flames FW with the hard forchecking ability. Take that with his skating and shot..... he'd be a great 2nd line winger.

#29 on our draft board is the big defenceman from Tri-City Brandon Carlo

Would be ecstatic to be able to draft any of Barzal, Braaco, Raantanen, Boeser, Carlo, White, Chabot, Merkley.

(Or McDavid / Eichel / Marner / Provorov / Werenski LOL!)

I still feel like I'd take a flyer out on Carlo and see how much he can improve. I just really think he's have that exponential dev curve.

carlo is a risky pick, if we take him at 15 i would be angry. The guys offense has really stalled and imo he is more of a late first or second round pick. I think his size will get him drafted above where he should but who knows.

I've been reading up on Brandon Carlo and the more I read, the more I want him. Seems like a perfect fit for our system.

Is taking him at 15 a reach? Perhaps a trade down to get him?

I don't like the idea of trading down at all. You take the BPA unless you grade all prospects the same in that range then you can trade down. Normally it does not work though, AKA SUTTER!

Yet I am impressed with Carlo and want him. We have 3 second round picks and 2 third rounders. More than enough ammo I would think to move into a late first round spot. Classified as a 6'5" shutdown Dman? We don't have that in our system. His offense could improve. Kinda reminds me a little of Shea Weber potential! Granted that is if he develops perfectly. If he doesn't though we end up with a big bodied shutdown Damn we could really use! With that big body and good skating we could see him in the NHL before his offense develops.

How so? He went from .18 to .40 PPG and really, he played on a very poor team so his numbers might even be misleading. From what I've seen of him, his overall potential is probably Marc Staal. In fact his 17 year old season stats look very much like Staal's 18 year old season.

Well, technically we have Dustin Stevenson (who Treliving likes - he had him in the Arizona training camps, brought him to Adirondack, and now brought him up as a black ace) and Keegan Kanzig. But Brandon Carlo seems to be way more talented.

Stevenson turns 26 before training camp next year. I wouldn't call him a prospect much less someone we should be thinking of as a future NHL player. I doubt he has much of a future outside the AHL. Kanzig is also still a longshot albeit a longshot with big upside.

its more his offense hasnt picked up as the year went on. Id like to see the flames package a couple 2nds to move up to the early second to pick him but at 15 theres no way i'd take carlo.

Stevenson is an AHL player, never will be an NHLER unless mass injuries occur. He is a place holder on an AHL team. I don't hate the guy, just see no future for him with the flames!

As for Kanzig? Long way to go for the kid. I am willing to wait but honestly I don't think he makes it. I am not writing him off just my opinion, but that can change. D men take longer to develop, big dmen even longer!

Carlo seems to be at a much higher skill level right now at a younger age.

Have to wonder if the stock of Bittner and Greenway is rising with the Flames after the series with Anaheim. Big heavy players that can play and wear down the opposition. There seems to be a fair number of skilled but undersized forwards projected to be available at our projected pick and can't see us in the market for one of these players given our current team makeup. Of course we could pick one of the d available at our spot but hope Greenway is available at our second round pick.

I'd be OK with using a second rounder on Greenway if he falls that far. Bitner and Chabot seem like good choices with the first rounder. But lots of other D may be available around the time we draft in the first round too, as you say.

In Hunter Smith, you have one of that type of prospect.

I'm a lot higher on Bittner than Greenway though.

#40 is Slovakian defenceman Erik Cernak... big, physical, but needs some coaching (very raw).
