Lucic and Rinne are going to Pekka new home
With UFA resigning underway it appears that two Penguins will be left to text the free agent market.
Starting goalie Pekka Rinne who is tied for the 4th highest rating in the CPHL for the upcoming season could not come to terms on a new deal in Pittsburgh. Management felt that the 9million he was commanding on a longterm deal was not something that would fit in Pittsburgh for the length of the contract.
With Matt Murray in the mix it appears that he will be given the reigns as starter this season with Mike Condon returning as backup.
Lucic found himself too far down the depth chart to justify the 7 million dollars he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh. According to sources Pittsburgh management was not willing to pay their 5th ranked winger that kind of cash.
It appears unknown if this the final decision coming from Pittsburgh as there have been big offers on both Matt Murray and Artemi Panarin that could free up the room to retain one or both. However it appears that GM Goffie is set on giving Murray a chance to shine in the CPHL.
"He's our guy long term. It doesnt make sense for us to trade him. Never say never, but we haven't had an offer that would make us consider it yet."
Time will tell if that changes between now and Friday, but the Pens may be a team to watch in the next few days.
