I really like Samsonov's new Cujo inspired mask. Not a direct copy but obvious major elements from the original.

Not enough invisible wizard tech.

I am complete 180 on Markstrom's cage. I think that was an awesome little detail.

Dan Vladar’s latest Calgary Flames mask project is here.
It is the latest chapter in his mask art saga, created with a clean cut retro touch with subtle 3-D effects.
I love the tower in the middle.

Honestly, it looks as generic as possible. Like a EA NHL game default Flames mask.
DaveArt is my least favourite mask artist. His list of non-sense sounding tech always cracks me up at least.

I like the fact that he avoids the use of the backwards Flaming C on Vladar's mask. It is easily my biggest pet peeve with our goalie masks over the past 30 years.

Backwards C just looks sharper. The Flames coming “off” the face towards the back is going to look 10x better 10/10 times, which is better justification for helmet design that than some arbitrary need to keep the logo the same direction.

It’s actually correctly oriented when the goalie does a handstand! But then again, outside of Marc Andre Fleury’s occasional cartwheel, goalies don’t do handstands.
I’m with you, the backwards C always looks awful.

I like it. Nothing wrong with simplicity, and that's not DaveArts specialty. Usually his masks way over the top.
Also +100 pts for the properly oriented C.

I don’t mind it. Clean design, just enough invisible wizard tech.

Athletics annual goalie mask ranking. this year they took the most interesting mask design from each team, providing that goalie has played in the NHL at some point this season.
Markstrom knit mask finished 3rd.
Quote:
3. Jacob Markstrom (painted by Jordon Bourgeault)
Granger: No current goalie puts out spectacular mask designs more consistently than Markstrom. His flaming skull design took the top spot in last year’s power rankings, and this knitted skull might be even better. The random loose strings give this paint job such a realistic look, it’s almost hard to believe it’s paint. As he usually does, Bourgeault customized the back straps to complete the look.
|
Top 3:
1. Marc-Andre Fleury (painted by Noah Ennis)
2. Lukáš Dostál (painted by Roman Vitek)
3. Jacob Markstrom (painted by Jordon Bourgeault)
Interesting note: of the 32 masks that were selected 16 of them were painted by David Gunnarsson.

Man, 95% of these masks suck. Two things are apparent, goalies these days have no idea on style, and Gunnarson should not be allowed anywhere near NHL masks.

I agree, I'm tapping out on Gunnarson's designs. Neat but derivative.
I thought the Merzlikins and especially the Andersen masks were great. Real art.
