So Brodie's gone and your only long term top 4 defenseman is Dougie (assuming normal decline of Gio), and now you've got yourself a Landeskog who is 3rd on the depth chart behind Johnny and Matty. yep, that checks out, let's do it.

Is a 1st rounder, young top 4 dman and a good prospect too much? I dont think so.
Honestly, and I know it isnt popular opinion, but I do Brodie, Wotherspoon/Klimchuck/Shinkaruk and a 1st all day. Due to lack of organizational depth on RW, I would like to keep Porier but if he was the ask, then sure.
|
But he sucks this year, isn't that the whole reason for trading Brodie now....because he has had a rough 1/2 season?
But to answer your question...yeah for the Flames, right now in 2017, that asking price is way to much. Actually way, way too much. Maybe that makes sense to a cup contender but it makes zero sense for the Flames.

I am not going to get into it again but IgiTang grossly overrates Landeskog

Has been having a fantastic season in spite of all the trade rumors plaguing him from the start. Wonder who they move instead or if they just ask for more.

This could currently go in multiple threads, but in terms of a safe gamble...
The HockeyFutures scouting report on Alexi Marchenko, put on waivers by Detroit today.
Quote:
Marchenko is a very aggressive player, a strong skater, and one who projects long term as more of a defensive defenseman. He put up points in the lower levels, however his style of play is more suited to a shut down, physical role than one of a player who will excel offensively. There is some scoring ability, as evidence by his MHL totals, but it’s not the defining trait of his game. Has shown an increased ability to read plays and make breakout passes from his own zone.

Is this not exactly what Calgary needs?

Sounds like the second coming of Wotherspoon to me. But then I have to admit I've never watched him play.

From what I understand, he is not dynamic in any way. He's a big right handed shot, who plays like a faster Englland. A 24 year old Englland.

He's an inch taller than Wotherspoon, same weight, but I have no idea whether he's any more physical.

Marchenko, 30 games 12 PIMs 8 hits 44 blocks 6 points +6. Maybe he is a Wotherspoon. I'll crawl back into my cave now.

Is not physically imposing, which negates his size advantage at the National Hockey League level to some extent. Points are not easy to come by for him, either.

So you're saying a guy put on waviers isn't very good?

Probably more a case of a guy on waivers, is more or less a replacement level player. Chances are most teams have a player or two that's pretty much the same as this guy.

If that was directed at me I was answering the question above about his physicality.

Sounds like Burrows and Hansen are rumored to be shopped if the Canucks keep on losing.

Burrows being shopped? The only GM Jim Benning could convince to take on Alex Burrows is Jim Benning.

While in New Jersey, trade Gaudreau and Elliot for Hall and Schneider.

Burrows could be that X-factor for a team and a thorn in the side of the opposition. It could also be a bit of a rejuvenation for him. I wonder if the Habs have some interest in Burrows, and Hansen could be a nice 2nd or 3rd line guy to give a boost to a playoffs teams offence.
If they do get moved, I wonder what they fetch.

I bet the Habs pony up for Burrows with Gallagher gone for probably another month at least and probably longer (based on how gruesome that injury looked).
