We tend to be a more co-operative bunch than that. Unless we're playing Twilight Imperium. Then all friendships are off and it's a fight to the finish.

Apples to Apples probably my favourite drinking game but usually we end up playing strip poker or kings.

Were you just referring to the post above yours?
There is a Meetup group that does a lot of boardgame nights... Calgary Geeks or something like that.

If you want to try Eclipse before buying it you can try it at Fallcon in September.
Also GoTv2 is available to play as well.

Between my good game-playing buddy and myself we have Puerto Rico, Twilight Struggle, Power Grid, Agricola, Pandemic, and a few others. We love them all equally and it's impossible to choose a favorite. We try to get together at least once every couple weeks for a game night.
Right now we've got 3 or 4 guys that'll come out occasionally to play with us. It's a lot of fun when we get a 4-5 player game of Puerto Rico going.

Ticket to Ride is a pretty solid board game. Wifey just picked it up a few weeks ago.

It's my personal favorite. Simple, I know, but so solid. Great fun game.

USA version is one of the easiest games to teach to new players. And Europe is a great expansion that adds just a little more complication.

FYI, if you are thinking of buying games, you might want to wait. You can pick up some great quality used games at the auction they hold on Saturday evening. (yes I am selling some games but I wont plug them here because I have dignity (and I cant remember which ones they are again )

My wife and I decided at the start of last winter that we'd have a "games night" every other week or so. Invite 2-4 friends over, have some supper and catch up a bit, then bring out a different board game every time. It was a pretty good way to pass an evening, to be sure.
Some of the others we tried out that I liked were Betrayal At House On The Hill, Arkham Horror, Zombies!!! and Killer Bunnies.

Picked up 1989 Dawn of Freedom. Basically the next iteration in the Twilight Struggle rule set. The focus is set on Eastern Europe. Finished the instructions, now just need to run through a sample of play to get the hang of it.

Blood bowl! Awesome game. Unfortunately the little game store where it was popular when I was young switched to M:TG when that came out. Although that was also a solid game.
Haven't played BB enough.
