2021 Flames' Playoff Snake - Route 66
The playoff snake is back. With the abbreviated season, the 96 point black line has been changed to 66 points. The black line has nothing to do with the current standings, what the team in 8th place is doing, or any other variation. It does not matter if a team gets into the playoffs with only 60 points. The black line will not be changed to another number. This includes, but is not limited to, 64, 62, and 67.
This thread has absolutely nothing to do with Sports Club Stats, nor does it have anything to do with the likelihood or chance the Flames will make the playoffs. Please do not bring these up in this thread. There are many other threads for that purpose. Anyone bringing up Sports Club Stats will be punched in the taint.
I have changed the display a bit to start off the year. Normally I show comparative snakes, but with this being the first season playing only 56 games, I'm not sure other snakes are relevant. I'm only displaying the first 14 games on the x axis, to make it easier to see the gap of the red snake and the black line. After 14 games, I'll expand the x axis to 28 games.
With tonight's win, the red snake moves above the black line by 0.643 points. It is currently on pace for 84 points. This is the first time since the snake was started by Bunk in the 2014-15 season that the red snake is above the black line after two games. It would have been above the black line after two games in the 2013-14 season, but the snake had not been hatched yet. The 2009-10 theoretical snake was the last team to win the first two games of a season. Neither of those snakes finished above the black line, nor did they make the playoffs.

The only reason I come into this thread is for the taint punches. I expect to see a few with the weird format this year. Someone's bound to post something worthy of a T.P.

Is 66 the correct number?
With in only division games the incentive to get a single point and not win in regulation is reduced. Therefore average PPG will be reduced this season therefore the black line might be too high.
Bends over and exposes taint.

I think it may even be the opposite. Since every game is a division game I think the incentive to make sure you get at least a point is increased. Sure, the other team gets a point but you make sure you stay ahead of the other 5. It will be interesting to see the % of games going to overtime this year compared to last.

There might be less incentive, but divisional games tend to be tighter. I wouldn't be surprised if there are actually more 3 pointers than usual.
Bottom line though, is that it is pointless to try and predict it.
Embrace the snake!

The number set by the snake is always the correct number.
So let it be written, so let it be done.

When the Flames signed Hudler I posted a photo of him drinking a beer in a cold tub (I believe after a SC win). I got my post deleted and a message from a mod.
This is not a complaint about the above post.

Jim Matheson
@jimmathesonnhl
Can't hope to make playoffs with 56 pts in 56 games. Can't lose one, win one, lose one. Disturbing thing is they should be closing ranks around Koskinen, who is going to have to start every game for who knows how long? Koskinen has faced 110 shots in three games. Way too many.
LOL , 56 points. nope not even close you are right there. of course the boys to the north need to get to a 56 point pace first
the snake has spoken. 66.

^ Revelation of the year Matheson, did he think of that all by himself? Like saying 82 Points won't cut it in a normal season.

Being still wrapped in cable ties is perfect. They’ve never used it.
Imagine if Craig Button was still being paid as a Vice Chairman of CSEC after unprecedented failure in a hockey management position in the organization?
