I have my doubts that the current Iranian regime could survive a long war. If I had to pick a major world country to have a revolution or civil war in the near future, it would be Iran. There is a lot of public anger at their own government and there have been protests going on for years. I don't think their population would let them get dragged into a long, protracted war. Getting into a conflict now could be a last ditch effort to distract the population, but it could also backfire tremendously.

Internal Iran media is bragging about how everyone in Israel is cowering and they've shut down schools. That's all they needed to accomplish to save some face.

Let's hope so. And that Israel doesn't sustain enough damage to feel they have to respond in an escalation. I don't trust either government not to do something stupid.

Technically it was the consulate next to the embassy, which was also the headquarters for Quds in the region, which is an internationally recognized terrorist organization despite also being a branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. So Iran fired 100+ drones and about 100 ballistic missiles at Israel by all accounts less than 1% hit the ground, seems like a failure but had those missiles been nuclear exploding 3000 feet above the ground we'd be talking about a nightmare.
I fully expect Israel to launch a large attack on Iran's nuclear sites in the coming days.

It's within the embassy complex, which is a diplomatic building, but whatever the case, it's clearly the reason Iran retaliated.
