Hoping it’s just $3 million in cap space as I hope Conroy can get Edwards to spend some of his pocket change to maximize the return value for Markstrom.

Not to mention we signed him as a free agent so everything is a gain. I think we will do well on Marky and better than what many think.

I wonder if Markstrom and Pat Morris will keep it quiet as Conroy likely has requested they do.

Sure, I guess what I was trying to say is at this point in our cycle, gaining the 6M in cap space for an unhappy 34 year old goalie who hasn’t proved much at times of pressure (not being mean, just stating facts) plus getting a few assets is a good move for us

On one hand - it sucks to see Marky want out. He was a fav of mine.
On the other it'll be exciting to see Wolf take the reigns of the net and really run with it.

Oh man. What a win it would have been just to get rid of Rooney.

If they wanted to get rid of Rooney they could have just not signed him after the TDL lol
The fact that they did sign him should tell you something. Watch him get flipped for an asset next TDL.

They can either get an asset to retain $3M or use the $6M toi take on a bad contract for an asset. Either way is good.

4th liners don't get flipped at TDL's.

Well somebody is leaking or we wouldn’t be talking about it on here. if someone close to the flames is leaking it here, is it reasonable for the Flames to get mad if Markstrom’s camp plays the same games?

That's a decent deal for both sides.

Multiple teams are going to lose because of goaltending and come knocking...especially at 3M

A couple of seasons ago, we acquired Carpenter at the deadline.

Add me to the pile that will be shocked if we get a unprotected future 1st+ holtz worth of value for Markstrom.
If they were offered that and shut it down that is a huge miss...

Blake Comeau to Nashville. That was way back in 2013 though, so you might have a point.
You see it more often as throw-ins to balance contracts and money rather than trades in isolation, like Sam Carrick as part of the Henrique deal this year.
I guess there was also Patrick Maroon to Boston this year, but he also brings lots of playoff experience.
