Default Player's Tribune: Scott Darling - Goodbye Chicago

Had no clue about his story at all. Another great article.

They were absolutely amazing. The nicest people in the world. But I had just come from an NHL training camp, and now I was driving through the backwoods of Louisiana with three old ladies in a giant Chevy, going to play for a team called the IceGators. And that’s when a thought struck me for the first time: How the f*** did this happen?

"The thing about alcoholism is that you never think you have a problem. That’s how it gets you. Because it always starts small. For me, it started as a way to cope with social anxiety. Ever since I was a kid, I kind of lived inside my own brain. I was an introvert, and I was so worried about what everyone thought about me at all times. Like if I walked into a room of 100 people, I wanted to make sure all 100 people thought I was cool. I was obsessed with being the best version of myself at all times."

I can certainly relate. It's great that Darling got over his bad social anxiety. It's the same disorder that led Bryan Fogarty to drink himself to death 32. I had a bad drinking problem for the exact same reason. If Scott Darling can overcome bad Social Anxiety, and play in front of thousands of people, he is a very strong person. I only wish I was as strong as him.

This is one of those reasons why I think it is important for everyone to be kind to others. You never know what anyone else is going through; it may be hell and you just can't see it.

That was a good article, both about his feelings and experiences and why. Hes really honest about it all.

From a sporting perspective though its interesting to see the trips these guys take to wind up eventually playing for the team they loved as kids and winning it all. That has to be an amazing feeling.

That has to be one of the most roundabout ways to win the Stanley Cup. Crazy.

Darling is one goalie without a ton of stats backing him up that has a real good chance of being a pretty good goalie playing 50-60 games per season.

Carolina obviously thought so.

Like all things though, time will tell.

He would have a been a good target for the Flames, albeit one with risk.

After last years goalie break down, I believe Treliving is going all out for an established goalie if he can.
