Dominant at times this season. A 10 game point streak with 5 goals and 7 assists, another 5 game goal streak, and then a strong performance in the playoffs despite a lack of team success.

Love Monahan. Such an understated game he plays, as very little of what he gets done on the ice ever seems to occur with much intensity or motor, as opposed to a guy like Bennett. There's still some space between him and his ceiling, and I hope we get many more years of durable, dependable Monahan sneaking in to the slot for stealthy snipes.
What I loved about Monahan this season, in particular the playoffs, was that at time he showed he had an extra gear. All those stupid HF polls he kept losing, the knock against him was that he seemed to have plateaued early and didn't have that extra gear.
Well he shut those naysayers up during the post season. He was attacking the zone, driving possession, and scoring big goals. I was pleasantly surprised to see him taking that next step forward, especially after such a rough start.

One of the most impressive; yet underrated aspects of Monahan is the grip height on his stick when he shoots and the overall lack of backswing/leverage he has as he accelerates through his shot.
This makes it really hard for a goalie to anticipate when his shot is coming and is why you see a lot of his goals go in without the goalie having fully committed to the shot.

Finally watched the whole video. Monahan looked noticably quicker in the second half of the video. I have to assume that his injury during the summer must've had a significant impact on his conditioning.
Flames are already an above average scoring team. I would love to see what they can do if the two best guys are 100% from day one. Ferland getting more consistent or adding a really good two way player similar in style to Frolik to that line and I think the forwards are set. Other than some minor tweaks. For me, building the bottom 3 defence and number 1 goalie has to be priority over forwards.
Since it's that time of the year and everyone's posting lineups in every thread. Here's my flames Stanley cup winning roster. (Let's say 2021
Tkachuk-Monahan-Niedereiter
Gaudreau-Bennett-Lazar
Ferland-Jankowski-Phillips
Mangiapane(sp)-Dube-Hathaway
Extras: Lomberg, H. Smith
Hickey-Hamilton
Brodie-Anderson
Gio-Stone
Extras: Kulak? (Probably not though)
Parsons (Calder, Vezina, and Conn Smythe.) After FINALLY stealing the job from an older and broken Raanta/ Crawford/ Halak/ Fleury/ Whoeversloff.
PS. The retro jerseys look great in the playoffs
Sorry not sorry for being off topic. Thanks for the awesome video. GO FLAMES GO.

Thanks for the video AC, always look forward to checking these out!
^I agree about Monahan's injury. I think it really slowed him down at the beginning of the season. Back injuries can really take the wind out of your sails and he was probably playing a little apprehensively as a result. Look forward to 100% Monahan to start the next season, fingers crossed.
