Netflix supposedly has HDR, but my TV doesn't give the pop up notification like it does when I'm watching Amazon. The Grand Tour in 4k and HDR, mmm.

I used to buy cables from Monoprice but with our crappy dollar and high shipping costs and sometimes long shipping time I've switched to buying cables from Primecables. Pretty much the Canadian version of Monoprice.

It's the refresh rate. So if your Xbox is spitting out 60hz, and your tv is capable of presenting at 60hz, but you plug into the port that does 30hz, 1/2 the frames will get dropped, then the tv will recreate the missing 30 frames to present at 60hz(or 120, or whatever the panel displays). The TV basically guesses at the halfway point between 2 frames to do this. Make sense?

Xbox One S should go into HDMI 1 judging by the information above. Check /r/XboxOne to confirm, but I believe that's the right port.

What brand/ model is your receiver? Judging by those speaker terminals it looks lower end, so it may not have ARC. Looks like an Onkyo though? Mine from 2010 has ARC, so it isn't just on new models. The cable to the TV should go in the "out" port though, which is the one that would have ARC.

What's the make and model of the receiver? It's a long shot, but maybe looking in the manual will tell you. It is typically labelled though.
Just to be perfectly clear, CEC/ARC is only going to automate turning the receiver on and off. Well, afaik anyway. While super cool, it may not be worth the money for a new receiver.

ARC also transmits the audio from the tv(if you have something plugged into the TV HDMI) back to the receiver, which is the main point. You can also control receiver volume with the TV remote.

What I do is only plug in 4K electronics such as my computer or a 4K Bluray into the TV. Your HD PVR etc. is fine leaving it in your AV receiver.
IIRC the Samsung 4K bluray comes with two HDMI ports. One to the TV for the picture and another one to the AV receiver for the audio as your TV won't give out anything above DD.

No, sound will work regardless. You won't be able to control the receiver with your tv remote. Be sure to enable it on both the tv and (probably) the receiver. If I recall correctly, you have the option of CEC or ARC or auto on the tv. I had to play around a bit to get it to work.

Higher frame rate reduces flicker.

New tv arrived yesterday hooked all components to TV HDMI and just the one HDMI from ARC on TV to HDMI out on receiver and no sound, Also I don't get sound from my tv apps when casting or netflix. I'm guessing I do not have an ARC compatible receiver so for now I'll grab an Optical cable and run that to receiver.

I'd read the instructions. Some of these receivers are a bit finicky.
Incidentally I may do the same thing you are... but am looking at Sharps (AKA Hisense). Seem to get pretty good marks for picture, though not great on black levels (what do you expect, they're LED's). Thinking the 70 may be better, give up around 8% in viewing space from angle but it's backlit instead of edge-lit, so probably better for dark scenes.

With my Onkyo I had to enable ARC in the settings. I think they called it something else. RIHD, maybe?
Quote:
- Press Setup on the Onkyo Remote
- Assuming you have OSD enabled, you will see the setup menu on screen.
- Go to Hardware Setup
- Go to HDMI
- Set HDMI Control (RIHD) to On
- Set Power Control to On
- Set TV Control to On
- Exit Setup by pressing the Setup button on the Onkyo remote
We now need to configure the TV audio:
- On the LG remote press the blue Home button
- Goto Setup
- Goto Audio
- Change Digital Audio Out to Auto
- Change TV Speaker to OFF (Personal Choice)
- Set ARC Mode to ON
- Press the Blue Home button on the LG remote
|
Not sure what brand TV you have, but you may need to enable it. If you have a directional HDMI cable, make sure it is plugged in the proper direction. The ends of the cable will be labelled if you have one of these.
