Default Playing with Fire - Theo Fleury play

Has anyone else gone to check this out? Maybe I'm just pulling a Fata but I'm surprised to not see it talked about more.

I went to go see it last night, and wasn't expecting much (because a play about hockey sounds a little hokey), but it turned out to be really funny and entertaining. Definitely brought back some good (and not so good) memories of the Flames, Calgary and Fleury. I'm in the camp that tends to think the guy's been a bit of an egotistical tit for most of his life, and some of that definitely comes through, but it gives you a little more insight into why he is who he is.

The production quality was also really high too. The set itself was a mini (synthetic) ice-rink on the stage, and the guy was on skates the whole time. Some nice production surprises along the way too.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure most CP members would love it. It's only on for about another week I believe. Martha Cohen Theatre.

There's a one hour documentary on Fleury on HBO tonight as well.

Might be worth checking out.

watched it. That was intense what a mess his off ice life became. Too bad he deserves to be on the HOF if the media voters didn't scrutinize his off ice crap and just looked at him as a player like they are suppose to. We all know the HOF is full of guys that were not the most stand up role models.
It was well worth watching.

I know this I would not have wanted or wished for anyone to go through the hell James put him through. What a monster.

The play is actually really good. Very well acted and it gets pretty intense.

I watched quite a bit of the HBO documentary.

Fleury is a damaged man. He's vindictive, arrogant, attention seeking, egotistical, bitter.

I really don't like him. Then again I really sypathize with the guy. What a messed up life he's had with so little positive support.

The scenes at the MJ Warriors HoF induction were not fun. His difficulty dealing witht he situation, the anger about how he got not help from anyone, the resentment for being treated like such a hero and how everyone just ignores the history of abuse that they all turned a blind eye to. At least Fleury thinks they all ignored it. And he's got a point. How did no one notice and how did no one say anything?

You should, it's pretty damn entertaining. Plus you can gloat to your high society friends about going to see performance art.

Took mom to it for mother's day yesterday. We both really enjoyed it (but she doesn't think much of Theoren anymore).
