But most NHL teams do not have three 40-point players that they can play on the second line. Calgary happens to have one of the better second lines in the League. In terms of League-wide production 35-points is the bottom-end of second line numbers.

I think it's what the compensation would have been had Jankowski walked away to another team after 4 years or re entered the draft. Not sure how it works but I think the pick being discussed was the potential compensation pick.

Yes. If Jankowski would have chose not to sign with Calgary we would have received the 51st pick in the 2017 entry draft as compensation.

I will have a lot of fun determining if 51 would be better than Jankowski and if 47/48 would be better than Lazar.

I expect that the Flames made the right decision both times but it will make for an interesting thread topic right after draft day.

Even if they are similar players, their developmental curve would be pushed back 4 years, so that's a factor. We need cheap depth players now.

At even strength, the Heat controlled 70.6% of the goals with Jankowski on the ice, but that dropped to 52.0% with him on the bench. Impressive.

Backlund only played 1 season in the AHL. He played 54 games in 09/10, and then 1 game in 10/11.

It is also worth while pointing out that Stockton was the second youngest team in the AHL. I think it bodes well that two very young players are putting up these numbers.
