Flames sign Ryan Lomberg (2 years, 2 way)

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed forward Ryan Lomberg to a two-year, two-way contract that starts in the 2017-18 season.
Lomberg, a native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, has played for Calgary's AHL and ECHL affiliates over the last two campaigns after signing with Stockton as a free agent in September 2015. The 22-year-old has skated in 57 games for the Heat this season and has 19 points (8G, 11A) and leads the club with 115 penalty minutes.

Lomberg was a stud in Penticton this year. Sounds like he's had a great year in the AHL as well.

Good candidate to be the next Bouma/Hathaway guy and exhibit 500 why you don't sign Bouma to a three year contract. But good on him for earning this.

Same type contract to a similar player in Hathaway. Like both of their games a lot. Looking forward to his eventual NHL debut.

From the limited viewings I've seen of Lomberg, he seems to be an energizer on the ice. He is always busting his ass to get to loose pucks and battles hard. Hopefully he can keep it up and potentially get a few games with the Flames in the next few years.

Good for Lomberg. Clearly worked hard down in Stockton and deserves some security for the next two years. Don't know if he'll ever play or make an impact with the big club, but should be a good solider down there at the least.

Don't ever see playing regularly in the NHL, but some of the Flames supposed better prospects like Poirier and Shinkaruk could learn from Lomberg how to play with some passion.

I like this signing. If for nothing else, the Flames organization shows all their prospects - and any UFA college prospects - that if they work hard, this organization rewards them.
Lomberg is a tireless hard worker, and brings a lot of speed. I wonder what his NHL upside is, but if he does make it, he may be a good 4th liner with PK ability. Really like his speed and grit.
