Looks like it. His team was eliminated last week in 3 games.

Cool. Flames have his rights until June 1 2018, might as well get a look at him up close in NA for the rest of this season. Hopefully he's good enough to be brought back next season.

I wonder if Riley Bruce gets the same thing. His CHL season is done and his Flames rights expire June 1st.

Hopefully they end up bringing Hickey in too at some point before the end of the season.

Flames really need a physical defender or two moving forward, especially if they lose Engelland.

Not much hope for Kanzig at this point. I think Doetzel has surpassed him on the depth chart. Flames must be kicking themselves for taking Bruce with their last pick and not drafting Philippe Myers who was clearly on the radar since he came to development camp.

You never know with these european players, sometimes they come over and it just works. Hoping that is the case for Ollas-Mattson.

Listed as 215lbs at 6'4, that's solid.

I would love it if he could turn into a solid 5-6 guy who brings some heavy physical play.

I'm definitely more excited for our d prospects than our forwards. Seems like most of them have a decent shot of making the NHL.

Glad he is coming over. He is definitely the type of defencemen that the pool needs.

I wish Rafikov would come over at some point as well. He likes to play that defensive, greasy, physical game that gets under opponent's skin (which would really compliment this team nicely), and he is a solid puck-mover on top of that.

Hope it works out with Ollas- Mattsson - kid hits hard, and is my dark-horse pick to become the new tunnel of death.

If he earns an AHL spot and we can sign Hickey, that's the entire 2014 draft in the pros.

Bennett - NHL
MacDonald - ECHL
Smith - AHL
Hickey - NCAA (hopefully pro next season)
Ollas-Mattson - AHL
Carroll - AHL

Looking at the Flames D prospects, right shots still extremely rare. Starting to think the Flames have no plans to sign Bruce before his rights expire June 1st. His OHL career is already over and he hasn't been signed to an ATO or anything like AOM just was. At least the other two younger righties are "high end" with Rasmus and Fox.

They've also got 21 year old Doetzel on an AHL deal as a right hand shot, and he's dressed in 49 games so obviously the coach likes him, but does management like him enough to give him the Lomberg treatment?

RHD

(20) Rasmus Andersson (Signed)
(25) Kenney Morrison (RFA)
(20) Riley Bruce (Unsigned - OHL)
(19) Adam Fox (Unsigned - College)

LHD

(24) Tyler Wotherspoon (RFA)
(19) Oliver Kylington (Signed)
(23) Brett Kulak (RFA)
(23) Ryan Culkin (RFA)
(22) Keegan Kanzig (Signed)
(20) Adam Ollas Mattsson (Unsigned - ATO)
(21) Rushan Rafikov (Unsigned - Europe)
(20) Brandon Hickey (Unsigned - College)
(20) Stepan Falkovsky (Unsigned - ECHL)

Gotta think Culkin won't be renewed, and possibly Wotherspoon too. BT has shown he has no problem cutting loose prospects that aren't cutting it so they can bring in new blood, although D do usually take longer to ripen. Does BT have more patience with D?

Kulak should be back, but again with him I guess it depends on whether management thinks he just needs more time, or if he's already maxed out.

Kanzig, if that guy ever makes he's going to take a long time to do it. Makes you wonder why Burke signed him so dang quickly after the draft. That one was a head scratcher then, and nothing has happened since to change that IMO.

So if Ollas-Mattsson shows enough to get an ELC, Hickey turns pro (hopefully) and Falkovsky moves up with an ELC as well, these things would make it even more likely that guys like Wotherspoon and Culkin get let go.

Rafikov I imagine will just stay in Russia as he's never shown any real interest in coming over.
