X929 just announced that X-Fest won't be back for 2017.

Bummer. I appreciate what they were trying to do, but the lineups the last few years were just awful.

Too bad. I attended my fair share, but not often in the past few years. Any word on if it was location related? Sales related?

Could be that X-Fest does not qualify for all the grants that non-profits receive, like Sled and Folk Fest.

Atleast I got to see the Naked and Famous last X-Fest, they were worth the price of admission alone!

The lineup for the rained out year was awesome- last year not so good, this year no festival. I think they took a lot of flac for how it was handled in 2015- people lined up for hours in the rain before they were told it was cancelled- then a lot of the bands wanted to play around town last minute but were told if they did they wouldn't get paid. Seemed silly as it could have resulted in a lot of fun shows like a mini festival, but instead was a bummer for people that lined up, never mind the ones that came in from out of town...

People need to let the rained out festival go though. Ft.Calgary was an absolute mess that weekend and the crew at X929 were active on Twitter/Facebook/Live radio updates so people knew it would have been delayed.

If you have the stage sinking in the mud, its going to be deemed unsafe for everyone.

I came in a few years ago to see Weezer at X-Fest, they were great. RAA and Awolnation were also a highlight of the day. What was not a highlight of the day was the 45 minute bathroom lines, I remember them finally just letting all the guys piss along the fence.

Wow I had to look this up but that was back in 2011, time flies.

Honestly it should have stayed 1 day and should have kept having the more modern rock bands headline (Weezer, Linkin Park, Blink - 182) because they draw more.

I heard attendance went from near 20,000 the first couple years to 7,000 last year

Not just XFest, but festivals in general now are clearly in the post-apex.

Festivals come and go. There are 425 festivals listed in 2017 here:

https://www.musicfestivalwizard.com/all-festivals/

22 in Canada.

I saw them at Coachella a few years ago and they were my favourite set. Maybe my favourite band right now....
