Gotta give Carreno Busta credit, he delivered his best tennis in the tie-breakers and that ultimately was the difference. Hell of a run Denis.

Never seen someone lose 7-6,7-6,7-6.....doesn't feel good at all.
Shapovalov lost that match. He should have won it in 3 sets...but instead loses 3 tiebreaks.
Got spanked 21-9 across the 3 tiebreaks...that's nuts.
Good run for the kid....probably made some great money too.

And now Felix, you go and break all those Denis record next year. And let's have a 2019 all-Canadian Wimbledon final.

Just a reminder that we still have Gabriela Dabrowski in women's doubles and mixed doubles still carrying the Maple Leaf at this year's US Open.

boooo. that was disappointing. he has some pretty bad forehands but it was his netplay that killed him. Should have broken Busta Douglas in the first 2 sets and should have never went to the tiebreaks.

Yay, Gaby and partner Xifan Yu move in on in the women's doubles tourney with a 5-7 6-3 6-3 win. Next up for Gaby, mixed doubles later today with Rohan Bopanna.

This comment made me realize that my anger and disappointment at Denis loss made me conflate the terms "anti-tennis" and "negative tennis". What Busta and that kind of player does is negative tennis, playing not to lose. Anti-tennis, on the other hand, is what guys like Isner and Karlovic do. They are virtually unable to break the opponents serve, are immobile and not great baseliners. They rely on dominating their serve and forcing tiebreaks, where since they serve so well they tend to have very good tiebreak records. It's a bit more offensive minded in nature, but still unpleasant to watch. So you see lots of 7-6 matches with those types of players.
It also appears Maria is on her way out, so they lose two of their three big draws on this day. If they lose Venus too those are gonna be some sad crowds on Tuesday.

Very impressed by Shapo, he would be very smart to request doubles at Davis Cup. Playing doubles will help with net play and helped Nadal improve alot at the net.

Bizarre scenes as Poulet was down two sets, then won the 3rd and up a break in the 4th, then tweaks something and lost 5 games in a row barely moving.
you never know with the French

I just came across a leaked photo of Kvitova's hand before surgery and it's...like those pictures of band saw accidents they show you in junior high so that you don't screw around in shop class. I actually cannot believe she's back on tour (and on Ashe tonight!) given how much damage was inflicted.

I heard the opposite that it was Diego that got hurt and Pouille let up. There is speculation that Diego will pull out of the quarters so PCB will go straight to the semis.
