What's the deal with his parents/father angle? Is this from Ultimate Spidey? Totally new? Seems kinda lame to me.

Peter's parents were brought up in the main universe Spiderman line of comics. The biologist angle is from the Ultimate line of comics.

Personally, I like it. They needed something to differentiate from the other movies. It's also a lot better than making his parents CIA agents like they did in the comics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_and_Mary_Parker

I guess they were. Although not in a main book. The spies part is from Untold Tales and as the article mentions they are only ever mentioned in passing since then.

However, that wiki article also mentions the Ultimates versions of the characters and that could be similar to the movie.

Seems to be the way with comedies. I have yet to see a movie that everybody feels is funny.

21 Jump Street was pretty good... if you haven't seen it yet check it out.

While I enjoyed them, I know people who had a strong distaste for Me, Myself & Irene, Kingpin and Dumb & Dumber (D&D for sure).

You should have a strong distaste for those people.

My wife and I were talking at one point about how much we both liked Judy Dench's M character, and how interesting it would be to see her backstory. Could make for a really cool story.
