Default Stockton Heat 2016/17 General Discussion

Looks like Janko potted one from Eat Bread and Vey.

How did you even...

Also Van Brabant got a secondary assist on the Ranford goal.

It has really irritated me how bad the AHL team has been for the last several years. I like the mix of our own top prospects and AHL vets sprinkled in on this roster. I honestly think that a little bit of winning will do these kids some good.

Would love to see our farm have some playoff success. That is valuable experience that can help in the NHL later on.

Wow, 4 of the 5 heat goals were super nice, lots of skill there.

Kylington had two glaring miscues in that package. That's going to come with his game, indeed plays like Karlsson.

They took away the assist from Shinkaruk and gave one to Jankowski on the 5th goal for a 1g 2a night.

Jankowski now has 1g 3a in 2 games. Including his 8 games from last season, Jankowski is currently a point per game AHL player.

Pro career for Jankowski thus far:
10gp 3g 7a 10pts +1

Hope he keeps it up.

What?

They've only played 2 games and he's only been credited with 3 points.

Whoever #4 is (I am guessing Kylington?) is playing some really terrible defence. Like, shockingly bad.

Ya that's my bad. Looked last night and thought it was their third game and they just hadn't updated for the night yet.

Props to AHL.com, they're quick haha

As far as the Heat are concerned, I thought the Flames rid themselves of too many players last summer (Arnold, Grant, even Van Brabant).

Now, though, Ryan Huska will have to use the Poiriers, Jankowskis, Klimchuks, etc. readily. Hopefully, this will hasten their development.

Speaking of Bill Arnold, what's the deal with him?

Still hasn't signed with not anyone. Not NHL, AHL, ECHL, Europe....

Nothing.

The hat trick did not count, it was preseason.

Anyways: last night I thought everyone played well, especially defensively as they gave Texas nothing despite leading most of the game.

If I had to be critical I would say Gillies looked a bit shakey IMO. Luckily Texas didn't really get good shots off on him, and he got bailed out by posts and dumb luck the few times they did.. His puck handling needs some serious work, it reminds me of Hiller and was directly responsible for two of the four or five good chances Texas did get. This is a guy people are pencilling in as next year's backup and I didn't think he played to that level even if 29/30 sounds nice on paper.

Kylington was strong 5v5 but as soon as the game opened up 4v4 he started trying to thread the needle without a decent passing angle. He did get caught once on an iffy pinch late in the game, but I don't blame him on that one as he also had the speed to recover. Still I thought he had way more good plays than the obvious bad ones.

Mangiapane's shot would be a welcome addition to our NHL roster. He was noticible all night.

Jankowski was again best all around player on the ice. He also had a slap shot goal, that was different. His assist on Shinkaruk's goal was really nice too. Not sure why he did not get credit for the "Hathaway" goal as to me it looks very much like it went off his stick right here:

(oh, just scrolled up. He did get an assist on that. 3pt night)

Wotherspoon was maybe the best defenseman last night. I thought everyone played strong on the backend.

Robak deserves a contract, he could be the veteran difference between a Calder run and the playoff bubble.

Grant is firmly in the NHL now. He looked pretty good against us in the Buffalo game. Arnold was a bit of a question mark and I put most of the blame on Huska for not helping to develop his offensive game. Van Brabant was easily replaced.

This years Heat are probably going to be the most successful farm team the Flames have had in a long time, if ever.

Lomberg, Mangiapane, Shinkaruk, Jankowski, Andersson. That's a great influx of young talent to replace the career AHL tweeners.
