Ranchman’s becomes first eatery in Canada to allow dogs on patio

The last thing I want to see when I'm enjoying a meal on a patio is someones dog slobbering all over the wooden patio floors.

Regardless, Ranchmans has been on a steady decline the past few years. Nobody I know goes there anymore because the place has been taken over by young kiddies.

I do agree though, Thank god they banned smoking in restaurants and bars. I can remember walking into clouds of smoke every weekend, and thinking back, boy was I stupid for exposing myself to that.

I really don't see this benefiting Ranchmans. I could see this idea working well in smaller neighbourhood pubs/restaurants. Somewhere where you are out for a walk and decide to stop for a beer or a snack. I don't see people going for a walk on Mcleod trail.

Also another point is that restaurants who choose to go this route allowing dogs will have to be careful on how the implement the change. Maybe introducing a 'doggie day' of the week, or limiting only to afternoons (11-4) when the dogs are allowed on the patios. That way the up tight germaphobes have a time for them to eat outside without disease in the air.

This reminds me of that story where some d-bag complained about the cat that lived at the Canadian Tire because there was some remote possibility it might sneeze on a chocolate bar or something. The world is a dirty, messy, filthy place. We keep the vast majority of the nasty stuff out of our food supply, but if you want to completely avoid the chance of contamination, you better learn to live on an artificial diet of Cheetos and RC Cola and wear kleenex boxes on your feet.

Dogs on a patio are no different than going over for dinner to a friend's house who has a dog. As long as they aren't yomping around all over the tables, the occasional bit of dog hair or whatever that you get isn't going to be any worse than you'd get walking thru a random city park on a sunny day.

I'm glad that nowadays you can enter a licensed establishment, stay a couple of hours, and not come home smelling like a cigarette factory, and have your life shortened by a few days.

You know on a strictly practical basis I do agree with you on the benefit to Ranchmans part. I will be going there this afternoon to support it but I doubt I will go again very often.... Its not like I take my dog for a walk on a regular basis up and down McLeod Tr.... in fact I've never taken my dog for a walk on McLeod Tr.

Well, my wife is in the process of bathing, shampooing, blow drying, and brushing our dog in anticipation of our trip to Ranchmans and to at least minimize any doggy germs that any germophobia people out there might be exposed to.
I suspect however, that if memory serves me correct on the usual Ranchmans clientele, that my dog will probably be the cleanest patron there this afternoon.

Wasn't planning on eating there and definitly wont now. Eating somewhere with a pile of dog hair/dandruff/feces is not appealing to me.

How is that different than using washed utensils at a restaurant that hundreds of people have used previously?
