I'm still not too sure what the deal is, so I'll ask a straight forward question...

I live in Winnipeg and have a contract with telus. If I were to go back to my homeland (Calgary) and buy a HTC desire (They look sweet!) and bring it back to winnipeg, would I get the full HSPA experience? Would there be any extra charges?

I know it would be limited to winnipeg only but even now data on the CDMA network is limited to Winnipeg, just voice and text outside.

Looks like it is HSPA only; which was my original point to this thread. Within the Perimiter you would get full coverage, but outside you would get nothing. Not even voice and text.

Yeah, Telus has CDMA coverage in Manitoba, obviously through MTS since Rogers is GSM even with EVDO.

But, the original point, which I keep forgetting to mention, and I might be confusing you Ken, is that Rogers has HSPA, MTS doesn't, therefore Telus should be renting HSPA coverage from Rogers.

And they should have done that last year when Telus came out with HSPA coverage in Alberta/BC.

Why they don't, I don't understand.

There is one single Telus HSPA tower in Winnipeg that covers the entire city including a fair bit outside of the city, but outside of that coverage as of right now NO HSPA phone will get voice, text or data.

I'm still wondering about Sask with the launch of the new SaskTel network.

No arguement from me on that one; Telus should be leasing space from Rogers. That is what Bell is doing.

Even Bell's use of GSM as opposed to HSPA at least meant I could still use my phone up at the lake.

When Telus asked me to do an "Exit Interview" type survey, I repeated several times that coverage was the #1 reason I left. Hopefully they take notice.

It might even be worthwhile to call Telus' support and ask about it. If there's enough demand maybe they will do something.

Looks like Sask will be up and running soon with Telus HSPA coverage.

The future coverage is pretty good too. Half of Sask should be covered with HSPA next year sometime.

About freakin' time.

Bell's coverage map has also been updated to show Saskatchewan coverage.

Rumors are flying that MTS will have their HSPA coverage by Thanksgiving, and Telus might have a deal worked out to have voice/text on those areas too.

MTS is announcing their HSPA network will go live March 31. Link

Click here for the coverage map.

No word yet if MTS will share their network with Bell or Telus.

^ ^ Coverage Map is a filthy pack of lies. Don't believe it if you plan to go camping in Alberta off a major highway.
