Thankfully it sounds like at least a contract offer is coming John Ramage's way.

Said he's in the pipeline, Brossiot and Granlund are ahead of him in the order right now just because they need to be signed by June 1st, but sounds like Ramage is definitely going to be signed. They just aren't worried about it right now.
My opinion is I think Ramage wants to finish up his school year at Wisconsin, still has exams, that's why he's not joining the Heat.

Hanowski, Ramage, Brossoit, Granlund to be signed.
Brossiot and Granlund contract talks pretty far along
Gaudreau and Agostino will have contracts if they choose to leave college

It's funny, because the same people crying about it in this thread, were crying about the opposite thing last year when management's goal was to make the playoffs. Their whining last year though was that their goal wasn't to win the Stanley Cup.
A large segment (not all) of this forum has become a gathering area for whiners to internet high-five each other and collectively wallow in their woe.
I knew the usual suspects were going to go crazy in this thread and within the first page they certainly delivered.

Plan going forward is to give players from Abbottsford a look see.
Will sit down with Hartley tomorrow and plan for the rest of the season.

Good to see that Granlund and Broissoit are going to be getting contracts. The AHL team will finally be getting loaded up with Flames draft prospects instead of lifetime AHL fillers.

Last thing, He says that he will have a contract ready for Hanowski as soon as the Frozen Four is finished. He's going out there this weekend to watch both Agostino and Hanowski in Pittsburgh. Interesting note, Gaudreau will also be in Pittsburgh, he didn't talk about it but I'm sure they will be talking as well, even though he said he would be talking with him this summer.

Some of the takes on what Feaster said is really rich.
Does anyone literally believe that the next moves the Flames will be making is:
St. Louis 1st round draft pick + Pittsburgh's 1st round draft pick to St. Louis for Bouwmeester.
Re-sign Jarome for 4 years at 7 million.
Trade Calgary's 1st round pick for a 34 or so 2nd line center reclamation project
This organization is rebuilding. Not hard to see. Do they want to mandate: "We are trying to draft #1 next year! huh huh huh"
The order of every season from now on is "Make Playoffs". Will they sacrifice the future in order to do so? NO. "NO POST APEX PLAYERS".
Once they make the playoffs, their goal after that will probably shift into: "Win the Cup" - it is at this point that you hope they make intelligent moves in trading away SOME of the future to enhance the 'win now' - as long as they have a viable shot at it.
Just like Blue says: "Stop, Breathe and Think!"

I think the fanbase has earned the right through experience to be wary when this team says it's goal is to make the playoffs. Especially after we basically just bottomed the team out. Stop acting so superior.

I'm not going to freak out now, but am i worried going into UFA, that the team will spend to get back in to the playoffs? Yes i am, and I hope they don't.
|
Absolutely you have every right to "freak out", but make sure you understand the context of comments that are making you freak out before you do so. For example, the "make playoffs" comment by Feaster sounded a lot worse on the TSN presser than after he clarified that it was to avoid relying on excuses and not striving to succeed as he stated on the FAN960 presser.
My comment was to those who had heard (or likely heard what they wanted to hear) and then didn't bother understanding or weren't able to listen to the follow up presser for clarification.

In the sense that it will be sarcastically posted for cheap "thanks" over and over and over and over and over again, I agree.

I think Feaster mentioned that they would not be ACQUIRING post-apex, right? I am not sure I heard that they intend on jettisoning the ones they have currently. Maybe I misheard.

You're right, that was the context. The Tanguay comment I made was in response to JayP being confused as to what post-apex meant and wanted to know if it applied to someone like Tanguay.

why does everyone assume that wanting to make the playoffs next year automatically means overpriced veterans and trading of draft picks?
can't they make the playoffs by doing this re-tool, re-build, re-whatever properly? it's not outside the realm of possibility.

I watched the first half of the feaster presser on flames website so I missed a bunch as it lagged a ton, but did he say that was the only trade they made today?
