Asked if there's anything imminent. Says no, general discussions at the moment.
Asked about what goes into draft weekend. Says keep busy with draft prep / getting list in order. Discussions on possible deals, but groundwork happens in advance. Things can happen quickly ala Dougie Hamilton trade.

Biggest difference this year is the expansion wrinkle. They completed mock drafts and were pretty close in their estimations. Surprised by the lack of redistribution amongst teams (like Anaheim trading Vatanen prior to exposing him).

Asked about Engelland. Says he'll be missed, but they're very happy for him as he's going home and gets to reunite full time with his family.
Asked about Gaudreau winning the Lady Byng. Says it's always something to be proud of. Recognized in the league of 700 players at being the best at something. Isn't just the award for being "a good boy" as you have to be talented and go to the tough areas and excel. We all know the talent that Johnny is and they're proud of him.

Who is doing this interview? Why are they asking Treliving about Nolan Patrick?

Asked about Nolan Patrick for some reason. He's good, obviously.
Asked about the draft as a whole. Not a bad draft, just doesn't have the "sex appeal" of a generational player. Really good players and at #16 they're really confident they'll get a really good player there. The amount of players he thinks are ready to step in right away is going to be a shorter list (2-3 maybe).

Asked if there's any sort of common thread they look for. Says different things: competitiveness, skill, drive, other cliches. Different guys, shapes, sizes, and positions... yippee.
Tougher draft to predict orders however. Good players in the draft but teams will value different things and they think they'll get one of the players they have circled drop to them.

Asked about losing Engelland's attributes (physicality and toughness). Says with Engelland's departure they'll continue to look at ways of address the lack of "flavour or spice".
Steinberg has him 1 on 1 now.

Asked about Engelland once again. Talked about how good he was on/off ice.
Asked if they considered re-signing him. Says Engelland had desires to come back to Calgary, but his separation from the rest of his family was difficult. So they talked about it and said they'd see how the expansion draft played out and talk after if Vegas didn't select him.

Crap... Treliving giving up absolutely nothing when asked about the type of player they might get. He says they will pick the player with the most upside :/

Asked about #16. Says if they stay at that spot, which they think they will, they'll get a good player. Someone not ready right away but they'll get a good player. Discussed trade-down scenarios, but are prepared for #16.

Nothing else of substance said. So what you'd expect from this type of availability.

Brad's great in longer settings when business is complete and he can ruminate about things. Pre-draft usually isn't one of those settings.

We'll take him if he falls to 16...
What kind of a stupid question is that?
