Isn't Strome a "cheaper version" of Eberle. Haven't watched NYI much, so this is based off reading fan opinions

We will see how this works out but, Snow has a reputation of owning Chiarelli in trades.

Nope. Not before McDavid.

This is all about saving money for the inevitable 20+ million payroll bump for Draisaitl and McDavid, nothing else. So the Oilers shave about 5 million off.
This does impact the Oilers, Strome has been pretty un impressive in his career. But he's a bigger body then Eberle and maybe not as soft.
But the Oilers give up some offense.
They're slightly weaker today then they were yesterday.
I would expect that RNH will stay now.

Eberle has outscored Strome by a decent amount the last 3 years. I think both teams were more trying to fill a need, I'd say they aren't the same version of player.

Eberle is a very consistent 5on5 scorer
This is a big win for the islanders

Not when it matters, he shrinks as the stage/circumstance grow.

Taking a while to get to 5000

If Eberle pulls a Schultz and finds his game away from the Oilers, its a big win for the Islanders. Just glad Hamonic is (maybe) still in play for Calgary.

And with that only RNH remains from the 2nd (3rd) rebuild. Hall, Yak and Eberle now gone.

Oilers have mentioned that a McDavid contract is a priority and (paraphrasing) will be done first.
So seems likely I would think.

Strange trade for the Oilers but I assume teams weren't offering decent defensemen for Eberle and this deal opens up some cap space. Strome did have that one good season so I imagine there's some potential there. Good trade for both teams as Eberle should do better out east and the Oilers can now break the bank long term for Russell (probably going to hurt them in the long run but they need him to salvage the upcoming season).

I think Russell is a higher priority with July 1st looming.

This was with reference only to Draisatl's extension.

You're right, I should have specified that McDavid was a priority over Draisatl.
