Icon59 Joey Moss honoured by Professional Trainers organization

Didn't think this belonged in the E=NG thread because, well, Joey Moss is the one good on a no-good team.

He's been a great ambassador for Down Syndrome, the Oilers, and hockey in general.

A long-overdue honour.

It's always nice to see someone overcome a disability and live life to the fullest.

A great mentor for everyone not matter what their hurdles are. But especially good for people with Down's who have historically been held back and discriminated against.

I am glad that they were able to honor Joey while he is still here to be able to remember it, people with Down Syndrome have a greatly reduced lifespan and are at incredibly high risk for dementia and heart failure secondary to their disease. I have heard rumblings from some family members and in the media that he is starting to slow down significantly and get impacted by dementia.

The truth of the matter is that Joey has been able to overcome a lot in his life and kudos for the Oilers organization for making him a part of their team, improving his quality of life and awareness for those afflicted with Down Syndrome.

Seeing him belt out the Canadian anthem is one of the greatest things in hockey, imo.

I didnt realize there was such a thing as a Professional Trainers Organization.

But either way, good for Joey!

Technically, it's the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society and Society of Professional Hockey Equipment Managers. Couldn't get all of it into the title bar.

It's really nice to see a rival team understand the human element to Joey's story and be so humble. Joey is my uncle. Myself and my family are so proud and honoured for the recent accolades he's been receiving.

As also mentioned earlier, Joey is slowing down which tears me up to think about. He will face some tough issues living a long life with Down syndrome. I just hope he enjoys his remaining years as much as he has enjoyed his wonderful life to this point.

Again it's heartwarming to see Flames Fans acknowledge and appreciate Joey's contribution to society. He truthfully has a legecy which will live on forever.

Thanks for staying classy CP!

Joey Moss is inspiring. He does things that make other people happy.

The anthem:

And, in a less sensitive time, I recall the ending of this commercial became something of a joke on the playground at school. Still, Joey wouldn't care, he was being himself. Looking back thirty some years later, this TV spot did a lot to lead the way for others with Down's Syndrome. Good on both Gretzky and Moss:

How did Joey Moss find himself in the Oilers org. in the first place?
