Still think you are reading too much into it. My read of psycnet's posts was basically, "imagine the coverage if the guy was brown/muslim", essentially what you are asking. The response was, "what are you talking about, most reports indicated, "terrorist attack"". Not sure what there is to decipher here. It was (properly) characterized as a terror attack. It just didn't fit pyscnet's narrative that this would be covered as a lonewolf/nutjob incident.
I am sure one could dig up cites which a lack of a terrorist reference, but the headlines/teasers I reviewed all indicated "terrorist attack". Hopefully the next step is that the media reports the attacker's motivation (if made explicit) and treats those statements at face value.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I think that this is the trick right.
The Terrorism attacks were inspired by more then just the desire to kill the infidel. There's always a political aim to these attacks, and for example a larger organization behind them.
With this guy, it might be revenge, it might be the simple desire to kill Muslims. But to me its labeled as an individual crime and the color of the skin doesn't really matter at that point. However that could change if he's linked to a group or has some kind of political agenda.
Do I think he should still be charged with terrorism related crimes? Absolutely, the jail sentences are more permanent.

vigilante justice? is there something about that term I'm not understanding? or did he actually specifically target and mow down the terrorist cell that was responsible for the earlier attacks?

The "1 arrested" part was kind of the giveaway that he wasn't a radical Islam type terrorist, no? They generally are on suicide missions and aren't taken alive. Either way, to hell with anyone that does this kind of crap.
