There's some good turns in there. It was even more sketchy at the beginning of the season when they hadn't swept the path of rocks.
Glad you're ok.

You can get some good speed along that section after crossing the gravel access road.
Rode out of Allen bill pond today and took elbow, snagmore, boundary ridge, sugar dadd, strange brew, sugar daddy, snagmore, elbow......20k and way too much climbing.
Love how my bike feels with this cane creek shock.....need to get a head band or something to stop my acidic sweat from getting in my eye and blinding me
Now I am going to destroy some shrimp fajitas for lunch

Could I get your guys' opinion on this frameset? I am building a road bike and currently have this groupset purchased: Shimano Ultegra 6800 11 speed Compact Groupset - Grey 172.5mm-11/28-34/50 BSA 172.5mm-11/28-50/34 BSA -Cycling Groupsets
I am 5'9 and find that I fit large better than medium for bikes, so this 58cm may work.

comments on this package? price fair? anything to watch out for?
I would need to buy wheels and pedals still.

^ so I am not a road bike guy, but the first thing I noticed was that the frame is a 2009. How much has geometery changed over that time. Have parts standards changed. How much is a new look frame?

I'm 6' and prefer a 56cm frame. I think at 5'9" you'd be more comfortable at longer rides with the smaller frame. You're less stretched out so it's easier on your back.
You're in that middle ground like me but leaning towards the smaller frame is usually preferable.
This is the typical ratio for height to frame:
5`6`-5`9` 168-175 cm 54-55 cm
5`9`-6`0` 175-183 cm 56-57-58 cm
6`0`-6`3` 183-191 cm 58-59-60 cm

For sizing, I find that it is your height and leg length. For instance I am 5'9 but have shorter legs and a longer torso. I find larger frames are better for riding, however the crotch is too crunching on the bar during stops.
Great points though guys!!

I am 6'-3" and have long flamingo legs, so I ended up getting fitted into a 60. At my recent saddle fitting, the guy (different fitter) actually ended up raising my seat even more.

Noticed yesterday that the old Fritz Flooring store (Bow Trail and 45 St SW) had signs up in the windows that Calgary Cycle would be opening a location there in 'Fall 2017'.

Soma cycle was right around there, used to be the shop I went to the most (knew one of the owners) back in the day.

I'm 5'9" and I have two bikes that are 54 and one that is 53. A 58 cm frame would be huge for me.
2009 seems old for a frame, especially if you are putting brand new components on it.. You can likely buy a much newer one for around the same price. The newer one will likely be lighter.

Height means nothing. You could be 5'9" with short legs or 5'9" with long legs, they'd be two different frame sizes.

Good point.
But what if you were 5'9" and had one long leg and one short leg?!

Coys did you get a replacement rig yet?
I used that RELIVE app on my phone over the weekend for my ride in Bragg Creek and the app is really cool. Because I have my fitibt tied to my strava, and relive tided to strava, relive shows me my heart rate at certain points and also the high elevation points.
fortunately, it does not show me where I walked or pushed my bike - so I guess that really did not happen.....
for those that have not seen it:

No I haven't - tough to free up a couple grand right now. Trust me though, it's eating at my resolve.

The province and Calgary, Edmonton, etc. just announced that they'll be working together on a bike law review. Apparently Idaho stops are on the table (but who knows what else, article is pretty vague).
http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/lo...906/story.html
My wish list:
1) Presumed liability for drivers
2) Legalize the Idaho stop
3) Minimum passing distance
Cycling corridors that connect urban pathways to nearby communities would also be amazing, but the article makes it sounds like more of a legislative review than potential infrastructure program.

#2 - I definitely understand and agree with. In fact, I'd say a good 90% of the stop signs in this city should be switched to yields for everyone (bikes and cars).
#3 - I'm not really sure what you mean by this, but I assume you mean a minimum distance between a car and a bike as the one passes the other?
If so, I don't see a point to this. No one is going to give someone a ticket because they left a 40cm gap instead of a 50cm gap for a few reasons. 1) there is no damage to either party (so who cares), and 2) there is absolutely no way to measure the gap as vehicles pass each other. Every ticket would get thrown out.
#1 - I hope I am misinterpreting what you mean by this, as it is straight-up ridiculous. I had to google this to make sure it was as stupid as it seemed to be. Every single reference to it that I could find was from some hipster blogger who argued that cars should be deemed at fault automatically because they are bigger. They then tried to argue that it wasn't any different from strict liability offences (which is also horse####).
We already have two different systems that determine who is at fault in an accident: if insurance is involved then the fault determination rules that insurance companies set up are followed, if not, then the courts determine. If cyclists want to use the quicker, streamlined insurance system, then all they have to do it obtain insurance. Like a car.
But you definitely don't get to cause an accident and have the fault automatically fall to the car (because they are big and scary).

You don't see a point in giving a cyclist room on the road? You clearly don't ride bikes very often.
