Default SHAW HS Channel lineup Reorg - Aug 10, 2010

Nothing major but Shaw is reorganizing their HD lineup to be sorted by genre. Here is the link for all the changes:

When is this supposed to happen? I like the idea - I'm not a big movie watcher, so getting those channels out of the way is a good thing for me.

Good question. My initial answer was going to be "no, because the PVR uses the program title", but on second thought, if you set it to record only on your HD channel (so you don't get a SD version too), then... I don't know.

Does anyone know if the PVR is smart enough to base it on the channel name instead of just the number? That way when the channel number changes, you won't have to change any series recordings. Hopefully.

The changes go through on August 10.

Will this affect the current channels that i get? We get HBO and Movie central in HD currently. are they moving those so that you have to pay for the full movie package to get them?

I know that in the past the channel shuffles haven't messed up my future recordings. No guarantees, but they should be alright.

Hopefully this is paving the way for them to add some more channels to the lineup.

The re-alignment has created a few gaps in the numbers...
Between locals and News: 213, 214
Between News and Sports: 216, 217
Between Sports and Education: 226
Between Education and Entertainment: 231, 232
Between Entertainment and Movies: 239, 240, 241, 242

I wonder if they forgot to move AMC because it doesn't really fit at 225 between Speed and NGTV?

Looking at Bell's channel lineup (http://www.bell.ca/web/tv/en/all_reg...neup_alpha.pdf), as best as I can tell, here are the English language channels that Bell has that Shaw doesn't right now:

APTN, City-TV, Equator, KTLA, Leafs TV (Ontario only), PBS East, Raptors TV, Rush, TCM, TFO (Ontario only?), Treasure, WPIX, and WSBK

CBC News Channel is also available in HD. Setanta is supposed to have an HD channel available as of August 1, and Sportsnet One is launching later this month.

That is awesome. Shaw needs to offer that before the EPL begins.

They released a press release about it in July, but oddly enough don't have any information about it on their own website (which still says they will re-evaluate their potential HD offerings in 2010-11): http://www.broadcastermagazine.com/i...aid=1000378803

If you look at the PDF I linked you can see two spots between the sports Genre and education.
It goes from SPEED HD on 224 to National Geographic on 227. hmmmmmm <fingers crossed>

I'm calling SHAW right now.

EDIT: though on second look it seems they did that for each genre.

Buy a slingbox. Then you can change it from anywhere and watch the flames preseason games that make it to TV from anywhere too!

From what I remember, this will NOT fata up your PVR series recordings unless Shaw also changes the channel identifier, i.e. as long as "TLCHD" or "CBSHD" or what have you remain the same, the recordings will be carried over to the new channel number.

Edit: Future Shop guys confirmed this.

I just checked out my the new lineup (via my Slingbox) and it looks like all of my scheduled recordings (series and one-offs) were preserved as many here had suggested.

Now... where does Sportsnet One fit into this equation when it is launched? 159 on digital and 217 on HD? I can't believe that I'm speculating what channel I'll be watching some of the games on... the season can't start soon enough!
