My favourite part of Stampede isn't really Stampede itself, but the breakfasts. This year, every day that I planned to attend one, it rained that morning and it quickly loses its appeal if you have to stand in a parking lot in the pouring rain. Made it to a dog one with my dogs but no people ones this year. :-(

I've always been of the opinion that the Stampede isnt really for us locals, I mean, the drop in attendance was more than expected. Lots of laid-off people either dont have the interest or the money, lots of suffering companies arent giving the same perks or throwing the same parties.

But if you've come to town for it the weather isnt going to stop you.

My parents just got back from a vacation in Europe and met a family in Amsterdam who were on their way here for it.

And yes, the Stampede is expensive, in other news water is wet and Edmonton is No Good.

Totally. It's like West Ed in Edmonton - teens and tourists love it, locals avoid it like the plague. Even in my office, the people who seem to buy into Stampede the most and get all western'd up are transplants from eastern Canada.

Seeing the new acts or whatever is fun (or hitting up the Cowboys tent if you're single and still of a certain age), but in terms of just walking the grounds & whatnot, I think us locals kinda see it as being "out on time served" in that regard.

I'd assume this would be like living in LA/Florida with Disneyworld/Land.

I had fun this year - the rain was a bummer but its still a good time to check out the barns/animals and catch some good live music.
