Totally random thought: Should Iggy be the Avs nominee even though he's no longer on the team? He seemed to be the only one exhibiting "commitment to hockey" on that team.

How did it show? He wasn't very good on the ice, actually very bad. So unless I'm missing some off ice commitment to hockey then no he shouldn't even be in the conversation.

Ok then, who else would you choose from that team?

Iginla is the King's nominee despite being with the team for only 3 weeks.

Love Backlund. Thought TJ deserved this one tho. All the stuff with his GF (wife?) Is pretty tough stuff but he has persevered.

Maybe Pickard. That guy battled hard against the Flames despite playing behind a bunch of floaters that all looked like they would rather be elsewhere. We have seen a lot of the bad Oilers teams over the years but this year's Avalanche team is as disgusting as it gets. If any organization should fold it's that one.

their official reasoning for that is incredible.

Iginla is one of the most well respected players in the game. His 1,544 career games ranks 13th in NHL history and second amongst active players behind only Jaromir Jagr. Iginla has played 70-or-more games in every full season of his career, showing remarkable durability since his first full year in 1996-97. Iginla spent 61 games of this season on the Colorado Avalanche - the worst team in the NHL - and never outwardly complained about the group's struggles. His teammates and coaches often praised how he pushed his 39-year-old body to compete every game and how he helped the Colorado's bevy of younger players.

simply amazing. "You're still new here, but your former team sucked and you didn't complain, so you're totally going to be our candidate for a trophy that is a reward for perseverance and sportsmanship."

^^^ When you consider the bolded, that really is an amazing display of commitment to the game for someone at the end of his career. It sounds silly, but that's exactly the kind of thing that should be acknowledged as an example for younger kids. Who cares if he just arrived to the Kings?

I hadn't seen this posted anywhere yet, and I was curious about who all was nominated.

Here's the full list: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/her...001700066.html
  1. Anaheim Ducks: Andrew Cogliano
  2. Arizona Coyotes: Radim Vrbata
  3. Boston Bruins: Zdeno Chara
  4. Buffalo Sabres: Brian Gionta
  5. Calgary Flames: Mikael Backlund
  6. Carolina Hurricanes: Derek Ryan
  7. Chicago Blackhawks: Marian Hossa
  8. Colorado Avalanche: Rene Bourque
  9. Columbus Blue Jackets: Sergei Bobrovsky
  10. Dallas Stars: Patrick Sharp
  11. Detroit Red Wings: Henrik Zetterberg
  12. Edmonton Oilers: Patrick Maroon
  13. Florida Panthers: Shawn Thornton
  14. Los Angeles Kings: Jarome Iginla
  15. Minnesota Wild: Eric Staal
  16. Montréal Canadiens: Paul Byron
  17. Nashville Predators: Matt Irwin
  18. New Jersey Devils: Andy Greene
  19. New York Islanders: Thomas Greiss
  20. New York Rangers: Dan Girardi
  21. Ottawa Senators: Craig Anderson
  22. Philadelphia Flyers: Pierre-Edouard Bellemare
  23. Pittsburgh Penguins: Marc-Andre Fleury
  24. San Jose Sharks: Aaron Dell
  25. St. Louis Blues: Ryan Reaves
  26. Tampa Bay Lightning: Steven Stamkos
  27. Toronto Maple Leafs: Morgan Rielly
  28. Vancouver Canucks: Ryan Miller
  29. Washington Capitals: Brett Connolly
  30. Winnipeg Jets: Bryan Little

Lots of goalies this year. 3 former Flames in Bourque, Iginla, and Byron.

Safe to say Anderson will win in a landslide.

LOL @ Bourque being the Avs nominee.

"Commitment to hockey"...*snicker*...Bourque is one of the laziest players I have ever seen in the NHL.

That's how bad it is in Colorado ladies and gents.

I wish the Av's used the same justification for their nominee. Rene Bourque plays for the Avalanche, the worst team in the NHL.
