Avenue Magazine Ranks Neighbourhoods - 2017
You have to be kidding me.
Look at all the love they gave NW communities - half in the top ten are NW. It's ridiculous. Varsity is number one and most of it sucks so bad with boring lame houses on boring lame streets with nothing to do but walk over to Marketmall. Best neighbourhood in Calgary? Impossible. Objectively wrong.
Huntington Hills? Brentwood? Those are rundown dumps. Edgemont is about as soulless as suburbia can get. The best thing to do in anyone of those neighbourhoods is tromp through dog crap and swat at mosquitoes while wading through thistle and dead grass on Nosehill (when it isn't burning, that is).
I hate this list so much.

Can at least get it out of the way early this year?
They purposely create this list with the intention of drawing in page hits due to disbelief and "outrage" over ranking. That's what they do, they do it every yeah, they're doing this year, again, and they will also do it next year.

Yeah of course because I don't think anybody even in Huntington Hills or Brentwood would claim they live in one of the 10 best neighbourhoods in town. They've got "at least it isn't the NE" going for them, but not much else.

I heard them bitching about the list this morning, apparently Forrest Lawn placed pretty high. I think they are going out of their way to piss off people.

Haha Canyon Meadows at number 20 overall. Re-opening the aquatic centre helped that much? Or was it our inclusion in the "ready2engage" brigade against public transit that bumped us up?
EDIT: Bumped from number 74 last year?

Whatever their #1 community is, I've been there and watched feral dogs eating bunnies while wearing Edmonton Oilers jerseys.
So there.

Ramsay 88 over all but Inglewood is 13? They are practically the same community.

You seem more riled up this year.

This list has to be a troll job. I don't want to single out specific neighbourhoods out of respect for posters that may live in them, but there are some really crappy communities on there that truly don't belong.
The easiest way to make a list like this would be to rank communities by average home price. The market has already ranked the best communities naturally. In general, more expensive neighbourhoods with lakes are better. It's that simple.

That was actually 2 years ago, last year you didn't really have 1 summary post but from what I saw you were also mellow.

I don't have an explanation for the change in attitude. This year I read it and it pissed me off hah.

Anecdotally, I see the demand in the NW. Houses sell quickly in the NW right now, often with multiple offers. People want to live there.

How do they calculate some of these things?
Ex. West Hillhurst:
Access to restaurants, coffee shops and bars
78/185
Really? That seems suspect.
