Hunter Smith could take the long route to the show. He hasn't stopped developing and you can't teach size.

He's not a top prospect, but sometimes guys like him and Hathaway find roles to play in the NHL.

Glad to see he's still maturing.

with his defensive abilities, he will make the show if he can improve his skating.

How did the Flames find him? His stats in the Czech league don't really stand out, but clearly the Flames saw something in him.
IIRC, it was mentioned that a few teams (never found out which ones) were actively trying to sign Rittich. I assume he chose the Flames since the Flames had no goalies signed with NHL experience for this season at the time (June 13th). Hiller, Ramo, Backstrom and Ortio were all expected not to be re-signed (well, there was still talks going on with Ortio).

Hopefully he continues to do well and pushes for a spot on the big club in time. You never know. Even if he develops into a solid backup, that is a huge win for this organization who have struggled to find capable backups.

IMO, there are two, if not 3, spots open on next year's roster for anyone who can step up.

And IMO there are 6 candidates that are capable of taking that step (by next year):

Jankowski, Shinkaruk, Pribyl, Mangipane, Poirier and Klimchuk

And in order of likelihood, I would guess:

Jankowski
Pribyl
Mangiapane / Shinkaruk
Poirier / Klimchuk

I feel like Andersson will have an outside chance of making the Flames as well. Might come down to who we have signed for next season, but losing either Kulak or Jokipakka to Vegas will open up a spot.

We are also potentially losing Engelland and Wideman, so the Flames defence could look pretty bare.

Yeah, I was just referring to forwards. The D could be wide open.

Though, I think they'll re-sign Engelland, because losing him, Wideman, and possibly Jokipakka would be too much in one year. Of course if that were to happen, they would have cap space to hit the FA market.

I imagine most Flames fans would be indignant to know that Bollig gets PP time from Huska.

Think this may be the worst game I have seen from Kylington in a Heat uniform.

Bad passes... turnovers... ugh...

Now Jankowski turns over the puck. Gillies forced to make 2 good saves.

And shortly after they score 3-0.

Rittich coming in .

Hopefully he doesn't carry it into the WJC. His game is very dependent on his confidence and without it he's just not the same.

Bad game for Gillies, or was he pulled to save him?

Looks like Rittich gets the start in the game tonight against Ontario.
