Hey Keith, having some trouble with my carrier furnace. Sometimes the blower won't turn off for a long time even if the thermostat is set to Fan Off or the heat/cool set point is below/above the ambient temp. On the flip side sometimes the thermostat won't engage the furnace even when the thermostat is set to Fan On or the setpoint for heat/cool is above/below the ambient temp.

I'm thinking its probably just a failed limit switch as the girl who lived there before probably never changed the filter. But instead of changing it out myself I thought I'd throw some business your waypoint get the whole thing checked out in case I'm wrong.

Hey Freq....

Yep...likely a failed high limit....infrequent filter changes and overheating furnaces as a result can melt a furnace high limit causing major issues between the control board and the limit.

Its exactly like Kipper carrying this team on his back for too many years and he finally says....NOPE ...cannot do this crazy crap any more...I'm done ...see ya.

The Fan does and will stay on for over extended periods of time and nothing is really wrong with that...the part will eventually need changing and or is really dirty and a proper cleaning can change that issue.
Over due filtration changes/ duct cleaning leads to this problem every-time.
