How is this possibly dealing from a place of weakness? Toffoli is a 30 gaols scorer with 1 year left on a value contract. You could flip him at the trade deadline for far more than this, it seems.
Not a great start for Connie. I have to think that if you put this trade in NHL23 as NJD and propose it to CGY, your XBox just laughs itself into a smouldering heap.
I’ll await the deep thinkers roasting me on how a 30 point player is a steal for a 30 goal scorer.

Also, don't believe he was good away from Hughes. He was a healthy scratch in the playoffs ffs.
This is a bafflingly poor use of Toffoli as an asset. This tells me the team is hyper focused on competing now, even though they're not a playoff team. Wow.

From what I remember seeing, Sharangovich could be a Duclair type winger for Huberdeau based on his speed and skill.

We’ll see what they do with it. I hope they’re open to taking on money in exchange for higher picks.
Initial reaction from me is not overly positive. Felt like we could have got a bit more here.

It’s all good you can never have too many 20 goal scorers

Big and young. Has flashed scoring touch. Kills penalties. Disappointing last season after a strong start in the NHL. Good write-up here:
Quote:
That is ultimately what Sharangovich has done. He has went from a scorer often playing and producing alongside Jack Hughes to a middle-six forward who can kill penalties. Even if you can argue that next season will see a bounce-back from the Belarussian, he suffered a downgrade among the Devils forwards in this past season. Something that goes along with not doing a whole lot for the team even after two seasons of production on a Bad team.

I think this gives us an insight into how the Flames are approaching this off-season: targeting young rosters players and change-of-scenery candidates rather than picks.

Sharangovich coming into his prime. Great shot and given some freedom could be a 25 goal scorer a season. I think he improved his two way play but still has some inconsistency in his game. Gets the Flames 6 years younger - and keeps them competitive with a player who has shown in flashes that there is some real upside there. Feels like a gamble but not an uneducated one.

The 3rd round pick was originally the Flames.
Traded to Seattle in the Jankrok trade.
Traded to BJs in the Bjorkstrand trade
Traded to NJ in the Severson trade.

Great.
He wanted to leave, so go.
Flames didn't have a 3rd, now they do.
Normally, to get that third they would have to drop down, now they don't have to.
Sharangovich is solid, nothing special, but this gets assets and dumps salary and an old guy who wants out.

I think it's Okay trade. Sounds like future Toffoli in Sharangovich and we get a draft pick.

Two assets that won’t move the needle for the team’s leading scorer.
Wooooo.
