Default LWOS 2016 NHL Draft Headquarters

The ends of the 2nd and 3rd paragraph repeat themselves. Other that that very good write up. I'm really, really hoping Calgary picks him up. I think he is exactly what we need. Size and strength on the RW. I think, given proper development, and a dusting of luck, he could end up playing on any line the Flames ice, from a 4th line checking role to 1st line power play.

Could you imagine if Lady Luck shines down on us on draft day and we win 2nd or 3rd overall then pick Tage in the second round?

Edit: Can someone donate an extra "Thanks" for the Thompson report? I'd thank or 2 or 3 times if I could. I'm super duper excited about him.

Tage Thompson sounds awesome. Can't see us taking him though, because we don't have any dedicated NCAA amateur scouts.

What? The Flames scout NCAA players. To suggest the Flames don't/can't scout NCAA players is preposterous.

Please don't spread misinformation.

Frank Anzalone is our NCAA scout, unless something has happened recently. Where did you get your information?

I never said the Flames don't/can't scout NCAA players. I said that's not part of their AMATEUR scouting. Our head scout Button even said as much, that amateur scouting is pretty removed from NCAA games because so few first time draft-eligibles play in that league. NCAA falls under their pro scouting and I doubt they're all too focused on a 17 year old draft-eligible kid. Could Tage Thompson still have their attention, maybe and I hope so. I just have a feeling he doesn't. They've drafted from NCAA before - Gilmour - but Gilmour was a guy Button never even saw play.

Agreed that there isn't enough players in the NCAA to have a guy who just watches that. But to suggest they've missed Thompson is preposterous. They would have seen him the year before at the US NDTP which is heavily scouted. So heading into this year they were certainly aware of him and would've arranged some viewings unless they had already decided they had no interest in him which seems unlikely.

I mean the Flames don't have a guy who scouts Quebec prep high school and yet somehow we drafted a guy in the 1st round who went there. Pretty easy matter to get our USHL scout to go check out a couple college games. We're not talking about a kid playing in some obscure European league that nobody watches. College is in North America and quite easy to get scouts to. We've drafted from far more obscure places so I don't think you should be doubting the Flames ability to scout a league that has easy access.

Tod Button is in charge for covering everybody so to suggest they haven't scouted a potential 1st/2nd rounder is basically accusing the staff of being incompetent and they certainly aren't.

I still like Tyler Benson quite a bit. If last years injury plagued season was a 1 off, I would be more than happy to grab with the (hopeful) Dallas pick. He could be a steal in that range.

Benson would be a savvy pick down the ladder. Question though, who do you take if the choice is Benson, Rubstov (Russian factor drops him into the Flames' hands) or Steel?

I dont know enough about Rubtsov to have an informed opinion on him but Id rather Benson over Steel. I'd also consider looking at Tage Thompson in that area if he is still available as well.
