Bumping an older thread...

Heading to Montana for five days tomorrow (might stay even longer), and staying near Columbia Falls. I have been there a few times to golf and ski, but this time taking the family and wondering if anyone can suggest things to do, see, eat, etc. Kids are 8 and 9.
So far we plan to go to the water slides and ziplines, exploring GNP and do some clothes shopping.

Thanks in advance.

-Huckleberry patch in Hungry Horse just east of Columbia Falls for the greatest pies (huckleberry) known to man. Also awesome milkshakes and fudge.
-Walk up and down Central ave in Whitefish for the shops and restaurants (similar to main street in any mountain town, but still a good way to spend an afternoon). MacKenzie River Pizza is a good option for the kids for lunch or dinner, but there are plenty of quality restaurants in Whitefish.
-Whitefish City Beach on a hot day
-Go up gondola and for a hike at Whitefish Mountain resort
-If you are going into Kalispell, Moose's Saloon is a must for lunch or dinner (and kids of any age are just fine in there).
-If your family is into live theatre, the Whitefish Theatre and Bigfork Summer Playhouse have great shows (particularly the latter)
-Might already be on your agenda for the drive down or back, but spending a good chunk of one day on the Going to the Sun Road is a must.

If you like to hike, get the All Trails app and then check things out while you are down there. Have fun.

Eat lunch at Phyggs Deli. Fresh sandwiches for everyone (and chips and pickes)

Steve,

The quick drive up to Hungry Horse dam is worth the time unless you are unimpressed by such things. You might be enticed to drive up Hungry Horse reservoir as well once you get there, but if you commit to going around the entire reservoir plan on a few hours.

If you're looking for Montana specific clothing visit Montana Shirt Company on Baker Ave in Whitefish. It is several blocks south of downtown but they have quality stuff and are great people.

Flathead Lake....just so much to see there. Might be worth driving down the east shore for some fresh cherries. Burger Town in Big Fork is pretty great as well for a quick lunch.

The Flathead Valley is my home and I'm not currently living there so I really feel like everything there is awesome.
