Smart move to put Bryan Cameron on that list by Troy Ward. Cameron, while in Utah, is injured and not expected to come back. So, that gives Ward flexibility to slot in any of those notables that are not on the list. Smart move.

Very interesting that Carson and Martin wouldn't be on that list. By my count there are only 5 defensemen on that list.

Despite the Heat loss today, nice to see Howse pick up his third goal (fifth point) in his last 8 games.

The Heat have signed Tyler Ruegsegger to a PTO. I like it, Ruegsegger has been quite good when he was with the Heat last year (5 points in 12 games). This year, he has 25 points in 47 ECHL games and was also scoreless in 4 AHL games for Bridgeport.

I'm liking that trade for Aliu. It looks like he's getting his career on track again.

Yeah, he now has 9 goals in 29 games.

It's not spectacular, but it's a step forward for a guy who was pretty much finished as a prospect just a couple months ago.

I was wondering how Brian Connelly is playing for the heat? I see he has 6 points in 13 games but there is more to a player than just stats.

I think when he came to town he was expected to be on par with Clay Wilson offensively. I wouldn't say he's been on par with him so far. He hasn't been bad, he just hasn't been all that noticeable. I will admit though that he is an important piece to the Heat PP. The opposing team always knew to go to Wilson when he had the puck because he was going to either shoot the puck or go in deep with it. Now they have two guys to focus on.

I believe he's paired with Breen now. Ward's experiment of putting Connelly and Wilson together didn't go very well. They were awful defensively.

Overall, not really much to say about Connelly. He hasn't stood out, but he hasn't been bad either. He is a very small guy though. Kind of surprised me when I saw him for the first time, I thought he was Sylvester haha.

On the Heat website, there's a post-game interview with Aliu after yesterday's game in which he states that he's really comfortable in Abbotsford and that the Heat are the best group of guys he has been with. He also said that it helped his confidence a lot when the Flames traded for him. Ward also spoke very highly of him.

Good on him, I think Aliu just needs stability and confidence, since he never had that previously in his pro career. He seems to do really well in that checking role.

The Heat did a good job on the forecheck for two goals - Howse knocked the puck free with a hit in the neutral zone for Aliu's first goal, and then Estoclet stole the puck in the offensive zone to set up Jessiman for the last goal. Breen with a great pass for Aliu's second goal. Tuzzolino's goal wasn't on the Heat website, but it's great when you can get some production from ECHL callups.

Adam Estoclet seems like a really good fit. 3+8 for 11 points in 12 games with the Heat. I heard an interview with him after about 6 games, he sounded like he loved the room and it felt like one of the guys immediately. Seems to be a recurring theme in the Heat locker room.

Heat get hammered by Peoria at home today - the Rivermen win 5-0 although they get outshot by the Heat 32 to 18. Danny Taylor allowed all 5 goals on 18 shots.

The Heat have signed RW Andy Brandt to a PTO. He's 27 years old and has put up pretty decent numbers in the ECHL with the Gwinnett Gladiators.

This year he's got 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points in 65 games.

Any thoughts here on Troy Ward's perfomance as coach this year? Personally, I dont think it's been great. I know there has been a lot of player movement up and down but I don't think that is an excuse. I am not sure if the team is really motivated to play for him. When I look at the player's stats this year, I notice that almost everyone had better stats either with the Heat or with other AHL teams last year. One that comes to mind is Carter Bancks. He is up there in having as much ice time as anyone in all situations but his stats are disappointing. Is it him or how he is being managed? I really think Ward was working this team from the beginning around Kalonos scoring the goals. This might have been to the detrement of some of other players' development. I still scratch my head over the Wahl situation and even though it may not have been all Ward's decision, I don't think Ward had Wahl in his plans for the team from the get go. I also see young defenseman Martin sitting and wondering why as I think he has played well. Even with all the call ups Ward still has a strong team but for the most part they can't score. You might say you can't blame the coach but honestly I just don't feel like he knows how to "rally the troops". I will admit that Jim Playfair was pretty crazy at times but I do think his knowledge of hockey and how to get the most out of his players surpasses what Ward has. Anyway just my honest opinion.....It's hard to see the team struggling so much since the start and need to vent!

Did Howse have any goals before being told to go home and get in shape? If not he must be playing well lately considering he has 6 goals now.
