Only 5 weeks away and a bombshell to start it off.

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh and the NCAA are in discussions about a so-called negotiated resolution for a four-game suspension in the 2023 season, sources confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

The looming suspension is tied to an NCAA recruiting investigation into Michigan in which Harbaugh faces a Level I violation, the most serious kind in the NCAA's purview, for not cooperating with NCAA enforcement.

Haha bombshell. It’s the dumbest most Harbaugh thing possible, he bought some recruits cheeseburgers and when the NCAA asked he was like “eh I dunno” and there you have it, “failure to cooperate”. Wish it was something juicy at least then it would be fun.

Harbaugh will likely appeal this, get it delayed until the end of the season when they have Purdue, Maryland, Penn State and Ohio State.

Just so I’m clear you think Harbaugh, who’s known about this for at least a year and is ostensibly working on a negotiated punishment with the NCAA per the story, is going to negotiate this with the NCAA then immediately appeal back to the NCAA for some reason, delaying said punishment, and you then believe it will be handed down later in the season coinciding exactly with the final four games of the season. Yikes that is a quite a stance to take. Bold.

What I am saying is after being such a stubborn prick and refusing to admit what he did which would have resulted in a slap on the wrist rather than any suspension at all, Harbaugh will once again be stupidly stubborn to increase the impact of the penalty again.

Looks like Colorado is going back to play in the Big 12 - I guess they saw what they would likely be getting from the Pac12 Roku streaming deal or whatever, and noped out.

Smart for CU, it’s a better fit or at least it was before. SDSU is definitely the clubhouse favourites to replace CU in the Pac12. Apparently there’s another mystery school looking at the same pac12 to big12 switch as well that’s not an obvious one.

Rumour was Washington and Oregon were thinking of a Big10 move but it feels like the Pac12 is coming apart at the seams

That’s the kind of meeting you have before jumping ship. Pac12 blew their media rights thing and now anyone can leave after the 23-24 season for no money. Things move so quickly with this but it’s possible the Pac12 doesn’t exist after this weekend. Maybe staying put was best for SDSU.

I can't imagine we are too far away from a scenario where every school is independent (or at least the richest schools). Notre Dame getting its own TV deal makes it far more money than schools who go through a conference to get a TV deal. And since CFB is now full throttle on milking as much money as possible it does seem like the inevitable end game where schools negotiate directly with networks instead of conferences. Also can't wait for the inevitable day where we start seeing 12th year seniors so guys like Tebow can make bigger NIL money than they ever can as fringe (at best) NFL players.

Big 12 needs to add one more school (or three) to make a balanced schedule. One or both of the Arizona's have been rumored for awhile and both would make sense.

Oregon and Washington almost have no choice but to leave now. My selfish preference would be for them to also end up in the Big 12.

Too much money being thrown around these days IMO -- can't fault the players as they're just doing what they are allowed to do but it sure makes it harder to appreciate college football nowadays, at least compared to when CFB was about rivalries, recruiting, and kids competing to win versus getting paid, protecting their draft position, and transferring three times before they graduate. /rant

Doesn’t look like the Pac12 is going to survive. It’s being reported that Arizona is about to jump to the Big12 and the Big10 is already openly talking about taking Oregon and Washington.

I should be more surprised that a power 5 conference is sitting in its thumbs while they’re pillaged but they seem fine with it. Failure from the top down

I wonder how long before these super conferences start trimming the fat.

There’s a few schools in the B10, SEC and B12 who now seem completely outclassed and stick out like a sore thumb.

They’ll either need to become superpower schools or may be told to GTFO sooner than later. The premier programs will not want to be sharing money with schools who offer little brand recognition to the conference and remain doormats.

I think this was more to recruting as opposed to playing them.

This sucks, because I grew up with the PAC10/12 and am a traditionalist at heart.

the PAC12 had the richest TV contract in 2011 apparently, and they pissed it all away by not being proactive and making poor decisions (like lauching the PAC12 network without a cable distributor on board)...also overestimating their value (reportedly their ask was 50 per year per team after USC/UCLA had left already) which made ESPN look at the Big12 deal first.

Its a shame that they couldn't get a deal that was equal to the Big12

This is going to be interesting, and that's a good question. Keep in mind there are other factors that make those schools attractive in some cases, but will it be enough to keep?

Rutgers and Maryland are perennial doormats but bring the NYC and DC television markets to the league. Illinois is similar.

Vanderbilt is in one of the fastest growing cities in the US.

Kansas and to some extend Arizona stink at football but are basketball powerhouses and bring a lot to the table in that regard.
