That is the risk for sure. However, they can also get worse. Sophmore slumps are not unusual.
For instance Max Domi would have a better rating after his rookie season than after his second season.
I could see Willie Nylander having a worst season - which is why I'm going to sign him now.
Guys like McDavid probably improve more but are already highly rated - so the marginal improvement is minimal.
