Anyone checking out the new Danny Brown album? Production is crazy, it's quite good.
I finally got around to this, and while We Got It From Here is certainly very good, Atrocity Exhibition is without a doubt the best rap album of 2016. It's a total cluster#### of an album, but in the best way possible. No doubt everyone has heard Really Doe, but I'm a big fan of Tell Me What I Don't Know, Ain't It Funny and Pneumonia too. It's a wild, but very fun album.

More from Danny Brown. Absolutely love this song, it is insanely catchy (and simply insane). Absolutely hilarious/disturbing music video directed by....Jonah Hill??? Yup

In addition to Jonah Hill directing, the Dad in that video is played by none other than film director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk, Elephant).

Haven't listened to it yet, but early consensus for new Kendrick is pretty predictable, a clear step down (or more) from GKMC and TPAB, but that is to be expected. I expect it'll probably be slightly worse than Section 80.

I don't know why, but I haven't been able to get into Kendrick Lamar as much as others in his periphery (do people still say "crew"), but this song is growing on me.
The video is pretty amazing though. It seem like the production level and filming quality has skyrocketed lately in hip hop.
On a different topic:
The rap scene seems to be producing a a lot of really cool stuff lately. Artists who a few years ago would have been considered "underground" are able to self promote easier now. In the long run, the loss of the underground scene may be a negative, but right now IMO, it is starting a revolution in rap, not unlike the grunge movement in rock in the 1990s.

I like the new Kendrick album so far. I've only been able to give it one listen all the way through but I enjoyed it. To me it's better than TPAB just because I've never been a fan of when rappers switch from rapping to singing. TPAB just didn't have enough rapping for me.
I really like the production style of DAMN as well. More sampled/interpolated beats and mid-tempo stuff. Hard drums too so it sounds great in the car.
Is it just me or does this album remind anyone of Outkast's Aquemeni album in terms of how it's arranged? Lots of tracks with beat switches in the middle of the track and Kendrick changing his flow all over the place. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm not sure how many are following the rise of Merkules on the Vancouver scene right now, but the guy is blowing up on Youtube and rightfully so. Dropping a new album today and everything sounds amazing.
He does a bunch of excellent remixes on Youtube too.
He's touring starting next week, will be in Calgary on May 26th.
