And the owners will complain that they can't make money under the current CBA, after mindnumbingly inane ovepayments like this . . .

I dunno. I'm not trying to pump backlunds tires, though if I were him I'd see the resemblance. This upcoming year will matter a lot, but in recent years:

Lockout year
MB 8g 16ps in 32 games.
DB 7 goals 18 pts in 36 games
Both barely minus players on bad teams

Last year
MB 18g 39 pts in 76 games
DB 18g 45 pts in 81 games
Both barely plus players, but on 2 pretty different teams

They are definitely comparable. The main difference is Brassard got to his current level sooner than Backlund and he was also a former 6th overall pick, which, like it or not, colors people's view of a player.

Way better than Backlund? I don't think so. In what way?

I can't believe that Backlund still doesn't get much love at all from so many Flames fans. This next season will prove the non-believers wrong when he isn't stuck on the 4th line or pressbox for the first couple of months of the season and ends up puttting up career numbers.

He will deserve to be paid after this season and it will be money well spent.

I think Lars Eller is a better comparable. Both were drafted in 2007 and have similar numbers.

LE:GP G A PTS
286 45 58 103

MB:GP G A PTS
246 41 60 101

^^ made think of a brassard comparable and gagner popped into my head. Boy that doesn't look good for the rangers.

Drafted 1 year later but

SG 481 101 194 295

DB 401 81 144 225

Gagners 3 year 4.8m deal made him worthless just 1 month ago. Yeesh
