lol their colours could have been neon yellow and bright pink! So glad they didn't go with what was the fad at the time.

Yeah, they went for the opposite and picked burgundy and steel blue, two colours that will never be a fad and sound plucked out of Will Ferrell movies.

It would take More Than Words to explain how bad that name would have been.

Saw this on my daily reading of Icethetics.

Couple other bits that I didn't know:

1. The Nordiques had released a new identity. The team was sold and moved before it ever hit the ice though:

2. They were voted by the fans to be the Colorado Cougars:

When word was leaked that the team was to be the Rocky Mountain Extreme, it wasn't received very well at all (thankfully). They decided to hold a fan vote, which they ultimately decided to override.

That Nordiques logo looks so minor league.

It's the kind of logo you would expect to see in junior hockey, really.

and yet, still an improvement over what they were using.

I remember reading somewhere that the Blue Jackets were close to being called the Columbus Justice.

The name isn't amazing but, to make up for it, their logo is one of the best ones in a long, long time.

Meh, Calgary had the "Oval Extreme".

I'm glad this never happened, but there have been some pretty brutal breaches of taste in the NHL. It would not have been the worst.

I remember really liking it at the time. Now looking at it I wonder what the heck younger me was thinking. The logo isn't the worst thing I've ever seen, but the color scheme would have gotten dated very fast and looks horrific today, kind of like the original teal & orange Florida Marlins.
