Damnit Sureloss, I totally read that as Kevin Hayes has settled on a contract with the Panthers. Scared me there, for a sec.

Hayes agent is finally willing to admit Hayes is unlikely to sign with Chicago before the August 15th deadline:
http://espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/story...wks-says-agent

Quote:
Kevin Hayes, the Chicago Blackhawks' 2010 first-round draft pick, likely will not sign with the organization before the Aug. 15 deadline and become an unrestricted free agent, the forward's agent said on Tuesday.

"We're likely going to wait until Aug. 16 and see where things are at that point," agent Robert Murray said. "It's absolutely nothing against the Blackhawks. We just feel this gives Kevin some options.

"This has been a difficult decision for Kevin. He's identified himself with the Blackhawks. He was drafted by them. His brother [Jimmy] played for them. But after his college career, he had a chance to step back and look at everything."
IMO will likely get 20+ offers from NHL teams.

Also his agent saying they are willing to wait til August 16th probably reduces the chances of a trade for his rights to slim to none.

Has there been a Kevin Mays Hayes joke made in this thread?

"He skates like Mays, but he hits like @#$%"

Carry on

FWIW the hockey news had the flames first on the list

If the Flames can get him, this will be a great summer.

Maybe its the Flames coloured glasses, but this is the second summer in a row that I am super pumped to see what the Flames put on the ice this year.

It's cool to see prospect log jams developing in the system. It's been years since those kinds of competitive situations existed. Adding Hayes to that would be sweet!

I have heard all of the following:

Boston (BC connection)
New York (geographic connection)
Florida (family connection)
Calgary (Arnold/Gaudreau connection)

I'd bet on Boston.

Born in Boston, played NCAA hockey in Boston, presumably has friends/family in Boston, has a legitimate chance at starting in the NHL in Boston, can join a legitimate stanley cup contender in Boston. I imagine Gaudreau and Arnold will be dispatched to put on a full court press to get him here and I'd love it if he signs in Calgary but there's just to good a fit with his home team.

Gaudreau was supposed to hold out and sign with Boston as well according to some, so you never know.

His linemate Arnold was #13 of the top Flames prospects according to CP. Arnold was centre on the line ,usually indicative of a better player (or at least skater) ... both are big enough and Arnold had a better college career overall than Hayes except for the last year.

Where would Hayes slot in to the Flames top prospects list? I feel he should be in the Arnold range..... but does he get the Jankowski bump as he was drafted in the 1st round?

Does the lack of Depth of established NHL players on the Flames balance out the deep prospect pool when picking a team for hayes?

Does signing with the Flames get him into the NHL faster?

I'd have him ranked around 10th-14th.

He's not a blue-chip prospect IMO.

This kid is severely overhyped. He has 1 good year under his belt, as a senior, playing with the best player in college hockey in the past 20 years. Did anyone watch him at the World Championships? Hayes isn't ready for NHL action and may never be, IMO.

I put Hayes around the Agostino level re prospect rankings. Though Hayes fits more organizational needs as he is a big RW. I would slot him in just ahead of Agostino at 17 on my list.

I would pick him up. But he isn't a top 10 prospect for the Flames.

IMO. He'd be in the lower half of the top ten, 7 or 8ish. He's a big scoring RW who just put up a monster season at the NCAA level as a Senior after basically going PPG as a Junior in an injury shortened season. I think it's hard to justify any lower then that.

regardless of where we would rank him, the fact is if we can get him for nothing but signing a contract, I say do it! not like were giving up an assets. then let him compete for a position

I'd probably put him 11-15.

Signing with the Flames doesn't necessarily make the process of him playing in the NHL any faster, but rather has the benefit of already knowing two prospects and has chemistry with them.

I'd love to have him on the Flames, but I could see him on the Bruins. The Bruins need another RWer in their lineup, and I think Hayes would have a good shot at making it.

might be a reason that he would want to sign with the Flames except that the Flames are deep at centre prospects and it would not be hard to imagine Knight or Jooris or Arnold (right handed shooters) or Granlund and Rienhart break into the NHL on the wing.... right wing that could be.

Hudler and Colborne (left handed shooters) are not listed as right wings but played the whole season as such.

I think that Mason Raymond has played both wings .... so with David Jones with 2 more years on his contract the Flames Right wing spot might be covered for the next 2 years with 4 non-goons looking at playing the 3 top RW spots.

On LW there is Glencross and Gaudreau and Bollig and Bouma.

If you go by official designated RW position players he would be the #2 RW in the Bruins organization.
