what gardiner brings as an advantage offensively, brodie brings defensively, so i really think it's a wash. i'd say both players are relatively equal in quality, just in different ways.
Brodie - 31 points in 81 games
Gardiner - 31 points in 80 games

They're basically the same offensively (though I'm hoping this year Brodie will finally break out offensively). Brodie is a better player.

Brodie is a significantly better player at this point - equal offensively, much better defensively.

This contract is definitely a comparable, and suggests Brodie is in line for at least 5 x 5 (which is no real surprise)

6x4m for Brodie would be unreal for us IMO

They are pretty equal about as close to a direct comparable for Brodie as you can get.

Same points, similar advanced stats (Corsi relative favourable for both of them).

Brodie is probably a little bit ahead but both are good.

Great contract. He's a very good young D-Man. He'll play a lot this upcoming season.

You can post points, but Gardiner definitely has more skill of the two.

Brodie's had one good season, when he has another I might think he is worth more than this contract, otherwise this is a fair comparable. Only true Flames fanatics think he is "way" better than Gardiner.

Gardiner looked sensational in the playoff series against Boston. There's been games he has looked so good.

Only with the Leafs would locking-up a young core piece for 4 million per be such a shocking move. LOL.

Of course he does.

Brodie has only played one full season (81 games), and he was fantastic. No question he was our 2nd best player this past season.

It depends on what you mean by "skill", but either way, Gardiner does not "definitely" have more skill than Brodie.

That Brodie is able to handle tougher competition, zone starts, and help his team score more goals when he is on the ice than the other team - suggests otherwise.

Brodie's advanced numbers last season were nothing short of elite.

Well the season before Brodie played in approximately 98 per cent of the games the Flames played so I would consider that a pretty full season. The year before that he played in about 67 percent of the games the Flames played so that is pretty much a regular. I would be curious as to what his stats looked like in those seasons. Perhaps one more year before Flames declare him to be way better than similar comparable players like Gardiner may be in order.

No, It's really not. Overpaid a ton for potential and a potential thats not great to begin with. Good luck with these contracts Leafs fans.

Again, bull. You and Ashasx are the same, you overhype the players on your favorite team.

You keep calling me out without backing up your claims, as I have mine. It's getting a little old.
