I like when Calgary was the "Heart of the New West". Can we go back to that?

I don't mind Blue Sky City, but Calgary is internationally known for the colors of its big skies moreso than just blue, and they're usually at sunset. I'd have called it 'City of the Sunset Skies'.
Fun fact: my Dad was part of the team that came up with 'be part of the energy' slogan back in the day.

Big Sky City also would be good IMO. The altitude and melange of sunset colors really speak to that.

Couldn't agree more! I still listen to it on my original vinyl from back in the day.

Big Sky Country is generally considered a Montana slogan. Too close.

Also too close to Saskatchewan's motto - Land of Living Skies.

I don't like the cynical takes on CP about how "no one oustide of Canada has even heard of Calgary" "Nobody comes here for Stampede" etc.
But I think I have to put my foot down on Calgary "being internationally known for the colours of it's skies".

Really though, how many city slogans can anyone name off the top of their heads? I doubt it matters beyond a sign you see when entering the city limits.

I can not think of a single instance anywhere in the world I’ve been where I have ever, ever heard someone even mention the sky in Calgary.
If we’re going to name it for what it’s probably most internationally known for, “Gateway to Banff” would be a solid contender.

I think we had the best Olympics ever in their history. Jamaican bobsled team, Eddie the Eagle - two solid movies right there, starring people that people know. We should have a series of billboards put up featuring that as you come into the city.
But really, “Close to Banff” is probably the only thing that resonates outside of here.

Yeah. Although personally if I was involved in deciding I'd just leave it as-is and save the money on consultants, consultations, and new signs. It doesn't matter, why change it.
