My theory is that the obviously disproportionate outrage directed at Taylor Swift is based in the sense among Trumpers that she, too, is a sort of cult figure whose supporters are irrationally and irreversibly devoted to her, and that she's much more effective in that role despite not even really trying.

Trump is the biggest con man in political history. He's going to use that video to grift more money from his stupid supporters so they can pay a billionaire’s legal bills. Republican voters are being hustled so effectively that they are cheering Trump on, laughing as he rips them off.
