Default Flames GF/GA even strength stats after 20 Games

I was curious to see where our players stand at even strength so far this season so I quickly broke down the numbers this afternoon. Just wanted to post to give everyone an idea where the guys stand.

I'd say it's a pretty accurate representation of who have been our better players this year. Stajan has been a beast and Stempniak has been a tremendous surprise, the numbers seem to reflect that.

On the spreadsheet it says 5-on-5, that's a typo. It's simply even strength goals (5-5, 4-4)

Otherwise knows as +/-

But yes, the fact Stajan and Stempniak are our only + players is quite alarming.

Holy crap.

Never, EVER did I EVER think I'd actually type this, but I wish we had three Matt Stajan's.

I see why Stajan and Stempniaks ice time has increased this season. The numbers don't lie. They can play on both ends of the rink.

I was impressed by Hudler being on the ice for 13 ES GF given the late start he got to the season. We've definitely got our money out of him so far offensively.

Butler: 240 mins - 12 GA
Smith: 166 mins - 2 GA

Considering they're playing the same type of minutes against similar assignments, I think the answer is pretty clear who should be playing and who should not be.

Surprising nobody, our worst forwards have been Tanguay, Glencross, Cervenka and Comeau.

When is the last time you can recall Tanguay delivering a nice pass? It seems like forever ago.

Anyway, that was sorta off topic but I'm going to click "Submit Reply" anyway

He was awesome in January, and little flashes of skill since (usually resulting directly in a goal) with very little of anything else.

Good for Stajan and Stempniak. That said, if those 2 are your most consistent players, then you got some trouble.

To be fair, Stempniak and Stajan are usually up against the other team's second and third lines.

Their line was a +1 head-to-head against the Sedins last night.

Can't take anything away from Stajan, he is probably out best overall player this season. Never thought I'd say that.

I don't know. Surprisingly Harltey's had Buter out at the end of games trying to preserve wins. He gets less sheltered minutes than Smith who IMO is not even close to the player he was last year prior to injury.

If you would like to see who is being used in which capacity (quality of competition and zone starts) and see resulting Corsi (differential of shots for compared to shots against, per 60 min), you can see it here. Blue circles are positive Corsi, red are negative. Circle size reflects magnitude of Corsi.

Special bonus is that the site also has a shot tracker. Ever wondered where Iggy scores his goals 5 on 5 and on the PP? Cool site.
