Not a bad idea...however, have you ever seen the line up of cars waiting to buy passes on some days? I can only imagine what it would be like next year. Mind you, handing it out without taking a payment would be much quicker.

Why issue a pass at all? Just let people go in without a pass at all since it's free.

Correct. If you look at your pass the expiry should state March 2018.

The free year announcement may not have been made that early in the year so the pass may still say 2017 expiry. I'm sure that the park staff are smart enough to add a year...

Which is why they are mailed out as well. Demographics and all.

I grabbed one because I like the design of the pass. Seems like it would be a nice thing to collect. Sorry for being a burden on the system.

P.S. All those cars idling at the Banff Gates waiting to get their free pass would probably be worse for the environment than mailing them out. Just a guess though.

I got one the beginning of March, and it says 2018. The announcement came Jan 4.

Also, what's kind of been lost in this whole thing:

- Beginning in 2018, admission for children under 18 will be free, and any adult who has become a Canadian citizen in the previous 12 months will be given one year’s free admission.

Has anyone actually received their pass yet? I'm assuming the backlog of orders is probably pretty huge but a month should be more than enough time for the government folks to stuff a few passes into an envelope and put it in the mail.

If it's anything like the Government Phoenix Pay Issues, we may get our passes sometime in early 2019.

Yeah, I got mine weeks ago. I ordered it the day this thread was posted and got it well before Christmas.
