Icon59 Vrbata dealt to the Oilers for prospects

To the Edmonton Oilers:

Radim Vrbata
Kevan Miller

To the New York Islanders:

Nicolas Hague
Tomas Nosek
Connor Hall
Conditional 2019 4th*

*Becomes a choice between a 3rd in 2018 or 2019 if Vrbata scores 50+ points next season.

This deal is a combination of two that the Isles and Oilers have been discussing over the past weeks, and we're glad to finally have it done.

Thanks to savardandjokinen for the negotiations.

We really like this deal, both teams got good things out of it. Yes we sadly had to give up prospects, but we got a cheap first line forward and a 3rd pairing defenceman in return. We've been on the market for both of those positions for a while and we are glad to have finally found a suitor in which we could acquire these guys. Hague, Nosek and the 4th which could become a 3rd covered Vrbata, and Hall covered Miller.

RADIM VRBATA: Vrbata is on a very cheap contract for the next 2 years, and he will be our tied 1st best forward based on ratings. He will likely start the season with Anisimov and Zuccarello. We wanted to acquire talent who were cheap, and had more than one year left on their deal because if you look at our roster, we have way too many expiring UFA's at the end of the season. Only risk is him retiring next year.

KEVAN MILLER: After losing out on some dmen in free agency, we were happy to get a depth defenceman in a trade. He's somewhat expensive at 2.5 mil for a 3rd pairing defenceman, but with Johns cheap at 1 mil, we were fine with acquiring him. As of now, he will start the season with Joel Edmundson.

Hague likely becomes the Islanders top prospect, Nosek is close to making the NHL, Hall is a project and you can never have too many picks. Giving up Hague stung, but we have a solid defensive prospect cupboard. Nosek was also hard to give up but we don't know if he even makes the Vegas team next year and he's already 24. Hall seems to not be that great, but he was a 3rd round pick. We hope the 4th we traded turns into a 3rd, because if Vrbata gets 50+ points, he likely doesn't even consider retirement and gets a good rating again.

Thanks Scorp for the quick and easy negotiations!
