Car2Go Calgary now has some MB CLA and GLA vehicles in their fleet. I saw a new CLA in my hood today. It is barely recognizable as a Car2Go because it doesn't have the traditional white and blue paint job. This car was silver with a couple silver/blue decals on the rear quarter panel. It would be a pretty sweet rental.

Wouldn't some of these issues be resolved if they simply kept charging the last driver while the car was parked in a specific areas (I thought they already did something similar when you park outside the popular areas)? Also, can't these fines Car2go is receiving just be passed on to the driver?

Car2Go keeps charging you (and won't let you end the rental) if you are outside the home zone. Not aware of any charges for parking in a specific area. Of course if you park somewhere that does become no parking and it gets towed Car2Go does bill you for it.

I'm only speaking to the Calgary example. Not sure what's up in Toronto. Oh and there was one thing I missed, I think you get an extra charge for either dropping off or picking up a Car2Go at the airport. They use the Park2Go lot for that service.

Correct. $12.50 to end or start a rental from up there. But you are allowed to hop on the Park2Go shuttle to and from the terminal. Never been necessary for me personally, but I can see how it would be a viable option for someone living centrally and taking a fairly light trip somewhere.

It still annoys the hell out of me when rush hour traffic is backed up because of a dumped car2go blocking a downtown lane illegally.

I can imagine the city makes a solid amount in traffic/parking fees from Car2Go even after their discount is applied to the fees.

9/10 times it seems like a ditched car2go.

Would love to see them redeploy some of the vehicles to Calgary and perhaps look at expanding to Edmonton.

Redeploy them in Calgary as Car2Go "Core", with a home zone that only covers the CBD and communities that surround it. Charge even a little more for them than the other fleet. I'd be willing to pay a little more to have access to a vehicle in the non-business hours. Usually most of them are out on the edges of the zones come the end of a work day.

I love Car2Go. I find it surprising that some of these other cities can’t make it work, but my experience is that parking in Toronto is basically a nightmare, and it sounds like Car2Go hasn’t received a lot of leeway from the municipality on that front. It seems like Car2Go and Calgary have a good relationship in terms of the parking rules for Car2Go really enhancing the service here (ie being allowed to park in restricted residential areas and no charge parking on downtown pay parking streets).
